Unless Colorado can somehow come up with the money to buy out Hawkins' contract, expect him to still be there next year.

Boulder is an awesome place except for the cold weather in December, January, February and March and the bums begging for change. BV may be a good candidate. I would bet BV gets a Head job (coaching that is) at the end of the year.

Didn't CU just extend his contract last year. The talk I heard was that they wouldn't want to come up with the $$ to buy him out.

Also, they've shown some signs of improvement over the last couple of games since they benched his son at QB. I think the other kid is a little better playmaker and definitely a better passer. While I think CU's problems are far more extensive than just a QB change, and I personally can't stand Colorado football, I think Hawkins will be there for at least a couple more years.

Sumlin will be the talk of the college football world in the offseason.

Starting your own son at QB is so pee-wee.

Sumlin.

I really don't want to see OU coaches go to other Big 12 jobs. That just makes it that much harder to hate the other team.

It also makes our job of winning harder because it raises the potential of the other teams by virtue of having a Stoops alumnus in there.

I would like to see BV go to a Big 10 team. He would clean up over in that conference.

I doubt the position comes open after this season. Colorado is not a "big money" program, they wouldn't want to pay the buyout. They would rather stumble along in mediocrity until the contract is up. They have probably paid off more contracts in recent years than they care to think about.

Illinois will likely be open. They are REAL bad, and they have talent. Zook is an example of the Peter Principle. He should've stayed a coordinator. BV would be a good fit up there, and, I agree he would clean up in the Big 10/11. A number of those schools up there have started to run the spread, or at least a form of it, and BV has had to scheme against that for a few years now.

As much as I want to say they lose to Iowa State, ISU leads the conference in rushing (sad, I know). Poor Buffs.

Kevin Wilson? After all enough people here are mistakenly screaming for his head.

I agree with bluedogok. I think Hawkins gets one or two more years before he gets the boot. Decision will probably be made at end of this year and they'll just sit on it and it won't really matter how well he does next year. Found this from Boulder paper for reference:

Hawkins' contract contains a clause limiting the school's liability to $850,000 per contract year if it should terminate him without cause. Hawkins would have more than three years remaining if he was fired at any point this season. His contract runs through Jan. 31, 2013.

KW to Illinoise would seem like a good fit

CU athletic department is still paying back an 8 million dollar loan to the Univerisy. Part of the 8 mil was 3 mil to pay off Gary Barnett who Coach Hawkins replaced. The athletic department does not have the money to buy out his contract, nor do they have the boosters stepping forward (at this time) willing to pony up the cash for his buyout, rumored to be around 2.85 mil.

with his contract extension this past summer it reminds one of Peterson & Callahan 1-2 years ago.....

Dan Hawkins does not suck, but his team sure does.

Yes, playing your own son at QB is pee wee.

The "10 wins and no excuses" motto they had in preseason was laughable, is laughable and will be laughable the rest of the season.

But, they are still not as laughable as Nebbish's 9-7 loss to freakin' Iowa State.

Har har.

What many fail to see is that once his son is gone he has a chance to play someone at QB who does not suck at the position. Hawkins has recruited talent, he just hasn't done anything with it yet. He could be a not-his-own-son-at-quarterback and one good coordinator away from a decent season. Unless Dan himself is accused of raping a player, the buyout isn't going to happen this time.

Colorado does not give a crap about football. Their fans would rather throw marshmallows than see touchdowns thrown.

...let's see if I can do another.

CU fans would rather rain Homecoming souvenir t-shirts down on its field than have their team rain points down on their scoreboard.

... one more!

Buffalo fans would rather quench their thirst for beer than quench their thirst for a winning football team.

Hawkins has already named the QB-who-is-not-his-son as the starter. I think he could have them on the verge of being competitive in the North rather quickly, much quicker than he could in the South...it seems like Baylor with Griffin would have been competitive in the North this season.

That would be horrendously awkward for Nebraska fans.

Stoops, Saban and Meyer could go to Boulder and beg to coach there and it wouldn't matter. It is still a money issue.

It definitely goes beyond the QB situation... CU still needs receivers who can catch an a better o-line (wait a second... that sounds eerily familiar).

If I was a CU AD my short list would be:

1) Turner Gill
2) Kevin Sumlin
3) Gary Patterson

Sumlin and Patterson are not about to go to CU. They have better jobs. Sumlin will leave first but not to a bad job.
