I hope the surgery goes well for Sam but since the recovery time is estimated to go right up against the NFL draft, he won't be able to work out for scouts. Therefore, I think it would be in Sam's interest that he not sign with an agent and take extra time to recover. Then come back for his senior season and lead the Sooners to another National Championship. Then he will be a top 5 pick in the 2011 NFL draft!

He would have left last year, except they pushed the salary cap back a year. If not for that he probably would come back next year.

I didn't know about a Rookie Salary cap in 2011.

If that's true then I would think Insurance will be paying out as there is no way he'll get the money he would have gotten by going last year or if he'd gone unharmed this season.

Tough spot. Take the rookie Salary Cap in 2011 or roll out with Tebow and McCoy.

One thing is for sure...in 6 months...we'll all have something to watch.

I wonder is Sam couldn't do more to help the Sooner program by making it big in the NFL. Show kids what can happen if you come play in Norman.

Good point there wishbone. Should he do well in the NFL...it's a terrific story.

I just hope that he made the right decision. Hopefully he isn't going to regret deciding to go to the NFL. Good luck to him! :)

well not really. This year would have been PERFECT to show off what he could do. Not a strong o-line, really no proven WR's (besides Broyles). Especially with no Gresham. If he was healthy, this would have been the best year to see what Sam has.

Before that he had a bunch of playmakers at WR, Gresham, then had one of the best O-lines OU's had in a while. Giving him all the time in the world. And he had a variety of playmakers to choose from.

Don't get me wrong, I too believe it's best for him to go though.

Those policies generally only pay out if he had a career ending injury. An injury that causes you to go later (and get less money) is not a covered loss. The main reason is you don't know what Sam would have gone and how much he would have gotten. No way to adjust the loss.

The "risk" Sam took by buying this policy is that he wasn't injured, but had an awful year and his draft stock went to $0. Then he would have paid a healthy premium and no cash to pay back his dad or whoever put up the premium.

Said another way, the policy doesn't insure that you will be drafted and paid $X, but rather that if you are injured and unable to play, the policy pays out the limit.

I doubt we'll see Sam play in another OU game, but I hope he'll be helping Josh and the QBs in film study and practice, and with on-campus RECRUITING. How many other college QBs get the opportunity to work with a Heisman QB and a Heisman runner-up/Nat'l Champion QB? His contribution to OUr program could reach farther than a few more wins and records.

Sam has a great relationship with God so I have no doubt whatsoever that he will do exactly what God has planned for him. I wish him all he best no matter what path he takes.
