View Full Version : Obama's war on Fox News

I think Obama is out of line when barring Fox News from the White House. It's only making him look worse. I don't even watch that network and I think he needs to let the other side have a chance. I'm glad the other networks stood up to him to let Fox in on a joint interview, because the precedent that would have set would have allowed him to grossly violate the 1st Amendment.

What say yall?

(See, I'm not a Marxist Muslim like the prez. :D)

Its for sure making him look worse. I agree with you about setting a dangerous precedent.

Although I'm not a big fan of US media, a free press in this country is necessary for sure.

It makes me think that he has an agenda that is not on the up and up, like he has something to hide.

Freedom of the press means the government doesn't censor what the press wants to write or say. It doesn't mean the government has to brief the press every time someone sneezes.

Side rant, but why does the press expect to be briefed on US combat operations? If I was in charge and had soldiers deployed, I wouldn't tell the press a damn thing before it happens. The press would get updates like "hey, we blew some stuff up last week, it was a big success. They didn't know we were coming because I DIDN'T TELL YOU BASTAGES ABOUT IT A WEEK IN ADVANCE."

The press aint what it used to be. Reporting not good enough have to spin it for ratings.

Story #1: If Fox is Talk Radio, CNN and MSNBC are Pornography

RUSH: So now Obama is out there saying that Fox News is talk radio. I am living rent free in this guy's head! Fox News is talk radio? If that's true, MSNBC is pornography -- and Obama likes MSNBC -- and CNN is child porn.

It's not the color of Obama's skin that we oppose. It's the color of his policies. It's not his blackness. It's his redness."
"The Obama administration is going to issue a new medical marijuana policy today, which, frankly, I'm thankful for, because we're going to need to be stoned to live through the next three-and-a-half years."
"Interesting little poll here from James Carville and Stan Greenberg. You ready for this? Wait for it... 'Racism is not a factor driving conservative opposition to Obama.' Well, damn."
"If you didn't hear Snerdley's rant on Friday about all this NFL stuff, avail yourself of the opportunity now: Snerdley has now made YouTube. It's going to go viral out there, Snerdley!"
"I know that at the end of the day, none of these competing leftist groups are going to abandon Obama because they hate us more than they can ever be mad at him."
"More and more industries have just lost courage; they're not willing to fight for the system that made them prosperous. They're so scared now that they're playing ball with Obama in the hopes that he'll exempt them from the harm they know will come to others in their business. It's simply outrageous."
"I have a suggestion, Mr. President. If you're going to attack insurance companies, would you please attack those in Iran, North Korea, and the Taliban like you do the insurance companies?"
"If you believe anybody about anything ever in your life, including your mom and dad, believe me when I tell you that the entire, sole, 100% reason for national health care 'reform' is a public option."
"Can I be honest with you, ladies and gentlemen? Well, you know I always am. But until we get rid of the unions, we're not going to have any change in the public schools."
"I keep saying how there are very, very dark days ahead of us, but you're doing more than you know you're all doing by staying informed and spreading the word. I would urge more of this."

Maddow/Olbermann Invited to White House Chat with Obama, But Fox Isn't a News Organization?
By Chris Ariens on Oct 21, 2009 12:58 PMHere's a curious turn in the White House vs. Fox News fight.

On Monday, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow were among several people who attended an off-the-record briefing with Pres. Obama at the White House. Sources tell us other attendees at the two-and-a-half hour chat included Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post, Maureen Dowd of the New York Times, Gwen Ifill of PBS and Gloria Borger of CNN. Perhaps not surprisingly, no one from Fox News was in the room.

This fact quickly turned into ammunition for the folks at FOX. Last night on "Special Report," Bret Baier revealed the information pointing out that opinion hosts from one channel were being invited to a briefing with the Commander-in-Chief, all the while Fox was declared not a news organization.

And it continued on Fox & Friends this morning, as the troika talked about the back-and-forth ABC News White House correspondent Jake Tapper had with press secretary Robert Gibbs in the morning off-camera gaggle yesterday.

[However, co-anchor Gretchen Carlson didn't have her facts correct when she said, "in this reporter gaggle was Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann who are opinion people over at MSNBC." Maddow and Olbermann were in the off-the-record briefing on Monday not the on-the-record gaggle on Tuesday.]

Is it a dumb move? Yes.

But I'm still of the opinion that the White House giving the press any info at all is a courtesy extended to the press. The White House is under no obligation to have ANY meetings with members of any media organizations at all. So the press bitching about it is kind of ridiculous.

I mean, look at it this way: the press are guests at the White House, there by invitation. If you're going to come in there and - metaphorically speaking - crap all over the rugs, why should they keep inviting you back?

disagree, you (White House) are in the public domain, publically funded...you have an obligation to allow all law abiding vistors a forum...

It's apparent the people calling the shots in this administration have zero tolerance for dissent and zero regard for the 1st amendment.

We bargained for this when we elected a community organizer as the leader of the free world.

If you bane one, you gotta bane em all. Can't pick and choose.

Even though I think Rus has a point about the White House being public domain. Could you imagine banning any media from the Capitol building or even Norman City Hall?

Heh. I'd be ok with baning all of 'em. No reason they can't report on stuff by requesting official transcripts after the fact. They just don't want to have to do that much work. ;)

Disagree... Remember Bush did not have press conferences but he appeared on Fox along with the rest of his cronies... Fox got the scoops while CNN and MSNBC and other networks were not included as much. So no they do not have an obligation. Oh and Fox is not a news organization!

Not having press conferences does not equal limiting the media. I seem to recall a fair number of pieces about Bush on CNN, MSNBC, etc.

You are confusing speeches with media coverage.

Knight, by your standards then, is MSNBC a news organization? If so, how do you account for the visceral commentaries of Maddow and Olberman?

In the end, can anyone who has seriously considered BHO's Chicago-land political background and his basic Fabian socialist political philosopy actually be surprised by any of this?

I'm just happy America sees through much of this Oz-like "don't look behind the curtain" stuff and the president's approval numbers continue to plummet accordingly. I wonder how they'll spin the GOP resurgence on Nov 7 and in the 2010 mid-terms?

I read this week that the president's approval numbers have fallen farther and faster than any president's over the last 50 years. And he's only about a year in.

What we need is a World of Nancy Grace types reporting the REAL News.

banning fox is like banning the onion news network or the naked news network. it's a network for entertainment purposes and should in no way be used as a legitimate source of information.

i'm not sure whether they deserve a ban, though. whatever the policy on those other networks i mentioned is, the same should be applied to fox.

they're not all the same IMO. they may all be biased to some extent, but none to the level of fox. even msnbc, which clearly leans left, mixes in some hosts that try to play it even.

fox is shameless. i can't believe how many good, hard-working americans rely on that for actual information. crazy world we live in...

There is a restaurant I eat in that has two TVs that are tuned to FOX every minute of the day. That is all they watch. Lately I see the owner outside a lot smoking. I think he's gonna die soon. ;)

That's down right funny.
