We have been able to get some Sony KDL46W5150 46" and KDL52W5150 52 inch LCD televisions. These have the new Bravia 3 engine, are 120 hz with USB port and Sony widgets internet connection etc... These have a longer warranty than if they were purchased from a large retailer. 18 mths vs 1 yr.

There is shipping but no sales tax outside of texas.

The pricing is great.

Dude, what's the deal with the new tv's being SO clear? I was in Best Buy a couple of days ago and in their little display area where the couch and sound system are all hooked up to their most awesome TV and Blu Ray system, they were playing the new Transformers movie. The special effects looked like the digital effects we used to see in the mid-90's. It was just so obvious they were fake. Like it REALLY stood out to the point it was embarrassing.

Is it just Hollywood needing to step up their game to keep up with the technology? b/c I'll tell ya man, it looked horrible.

I rented it on regular DVD and watched it on my LCD projection HDTV and the special effects looked much more natural in the environment. That didn't take away from the movie sucking hardcore, but at least I wasn't distracted by how bush league the effects were.

I agree with you. Most stores us blu ray for demos and I really don't think it helps. Film is softer looking and presents a much better display. Out of the 8 folks I work with, none of us owns a bluray partially for that very reason.

I totally agree with you all on the Blu-Ray deal. Pure marketing gimmick IMO.

I bought the PS3 so I could play Blu-Ray discs to see what I thought about it. Blu-ray will go the way of the large Video Disc IMO. It adds very little to the watching experience. Adding all that extra crap just doesn't appeal to me at all.

The PS3 game console though....the kids hardly play the PS2 anymore.

I also saw them playing the new Batman on Blu Ray and again, it was just TOO intense. Kinda made my eyes and head hurt a bit watching it. It just needs to be smoother. For games, it's awesome. Movies.... not so much.

That's not what the company says about itself, and they couldn't represent they were made in the US if they weren't.

Anyway, the things I especially like about them is they are commonly available (Wally World even sells them), cheaper than the asian brands, and they really stand behind their product. Ask Dean about how they fixed the one he drags back and forth to our tailgates despite the fact it was outside the warranty period.

Yes, they are an American company head quarter in California,
But the TV's are not made there.

If you get one. Keep your original box. they are not serviceable because their componants are not specified that way.

Yup, they stand behind their product..............rolling eyes. We have to deal with their customers on a daily basis but if its what you like then go for it.

Dude, I can only go by my own personal experience. Here's the story:

I own 4 HD flatscreens at the house. One Mitsubishi, two Samsungs, and a POS Sylvania. Personally, I like the picture on the Samsungs the best, however, the Mitsubishi has less glare (they're all LCD) - and that's important to me since we don't have any curtains or window coverings anywhere in the house.

For the tailgates, I decided to purchase a 37" Vizio mainly for the price, and the lack of glare when playing it outdoors. We had it over a year, and the first game this year it started crapping out. I'm reasonably certain it might have had something to do with 7" of rain...

Anyhow, I decided to call Vizio and tell them the problem. They asked for a picture of the screen. Momma took a picture, and emailed it to them. They told me the warrany was only good for 12 months. I said "I know, but we only use this thing for tailgates and it shouldn't be ****ed up." He said "I agree, and we'll go ahead and honor the warranty anyhow." The next day a dude shows up at the house, replaces the board and a cable, and the TV works great.

They won a customer or two that day. While I still believe the Samsung is the best TV on the market, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Vizio.

check out the difference in the contrast ratios on the Vizios compared to that Sony

then look at the prices...

if i was paying retail, i'd buy a Samsung though

here is some info on the manufacturing from Wang's mouth:

About 60 percent of our manufacturing is done in China, about 40 percent in Taiwan, but we're in the process of moving some manufacturing to Mexico. The biggest cost remains the components--the plasma module and LCD module. Prices are going down. But to give you an idea, the U.S. duty for TVs from Asia is 5 percent. So the duty is a little higher than the labor cost. There is no duty from Mexico.

I have been out of touch for the last couple of days due to illness in the family but have followed up on all the PM's. Glad everything is working out for all those who had good luck with other brands. Never said they were bad just relating the day to day experiences. Have a great one.

BTW there is no stantardization for contrast ratios so trust your eyes, not the numbers K?
