How in the world do we only run DM 5 times? DM should have at least 15 carries, and I would like to see Jonathan Miller get 5 a game, we burned the shirt but don't play him except against Idaho St. and late against Tulsa.

You guys remember the 03 offense, then in 04 with AD Jason doesn't throw for 4000, but still had a great year, we ran a lot of two tight sets or I formation, I really thought we would see more of this in 2009 with all the WR we lost. Oh well, I just miss our running game.

Although I 100% agree with your premise on using Murray more, the title thread makes me think...

But I think we have learned that...dammit...Kevin Wilson will establish the run no matter what.

OU needs to be a more 1999 style offense the rest of the season. Play, line up, snap and go...

He looked like he could barely walk out there, after the first quarter.

1) 5 turnovers
2) 2 missed interceptions by the safties
3) 1 tackle by Colt McCoy
4) > 100 yards in penalties
5) 1 Heisman winning QB going down in the first quarter.

He may not establish the run but he certainly won't give up trying. I believe if we would have run the ball 15 or 20 more times yesterday we would have come close to -50 yards rushing.

Well, possibly so. But our coaches have become fixated on trying to get more snaps, I love running the football and Time of Possession. Just my preference.

If they want more snaps they should have thrown it. The clock stops on incompletions and we were only getting first downs on passing plays.

It is of some consolation to know that I am not the only one confused as hell about what went on - not just yesterday but also against Miami. Let me declare up front that I am no football expert but the play selection just doesn't make sense to me.

It appears that KW is calling the 3rd down play on 2nd down, the 2nd down call would have made more sense on 1st down, etc. When he called the reverse on 3rd down it nearly put me over the ledge. Those plays take a darn long time to develop and we were in the Pricey Real Estate section of the field. Along those lines, do we not have a Red Zone package or is it that the offense just can't execute it?

I'm so confused!

Mangino was gone after 01, when the offense was terrible, and most were happy he left.

Our OL play got considerably better in 2002, when Wilson took over those duties from Mangino. I think Q went from an 800-yard back, to an 1800-yard back.

We lost (which should be no surprise to anyone) because we couldn't capitalize on the opportunities given to us. What killed me the most was when Demarco Murray fumbled the ball. We could have eventually wound in field goal range on that drive. Also, Modu's fumble hurt as well, another time when we pissed away great field position from a great special teams play. Our field position the entire game was horrible. And of course, why we continued to run up the middle without a fullback leading the way is beyond me. And what amazes me the most is how the offensive coordinator was able to adapt to the abilities of only with less than a month of prep time with Paul Thompson, but yet we can't do so with a talented Landy Jones. Landry Jones should be allowed to scramble more. Heck, he seems to have the wheels just like McCoy. And of course, if we had a kicker who was worth anything(and this is no personal shot to Stevens), things might be different. But as always, in my 10 years of following OU football religiously, I have to say that this program is the most unluckiest team in college football, period......BOOMER!

GKeeper316
10/19/2009, 03:58 AM
paul thompson had been in the system for 4 years and was originally recruited as a quarterback.

he was one of those guys that eventually just switched positions to wr to get some playing time. also, and im not saying landry jones is stupid... ive never met him and wouldnt make a judgement about someone like that unless id met him first, but i have met paul thompson. he's one of the smartest guys we've ever had wear a sooner uniform.

but i agree about our luck. it just seems like we're constantly gettin screwed by luck. i guess thats the down side of sooner magic. sometimes we go on a run of the best luck in the world of college football, and then we follow that up with about twice as long of all that used up karma biting us in the ***.

So why do you post in a Sooner's forum?

The 2 droped int's were from a LB. And the reason DM didn't run the ball more was bc he was catching the ball out of the backfield or from the slot... which if I remember correctly is what the fans wanted Wilson to do. If the run was not working and the passing game was, then why wouldn't he try to get the ball to a talented runner?

it is hard to have much offense when your receivers can't catch and your offensive line sucks.
and no matter how good your defense is playing doesn't pitch shut outs.

Sicem there may be times and places to antagonize OU fans -- whether they're soonerfans noobs or not -- but 2 days after a ridiculously tragic chain of events culminating in our 3rd loss of the season and the probable last glimpse we'll get of Bradford in a Sooner uni is not one of those times.
