the OHP is in the air and clocking speeders. They are pulling people over somewhere around the Ardmore area. It sounds like they are only pulling people over doing 80 or faster at the moment. When I hear the mile marker I will post it.

That is all

They just said the 28 mile marker so it's just south of Ardmore.

In the last 30 minutes they have pulled around 25 cars over. All doing anywhere from 80-94.

70 is the speed limit, lame ;)

Now folks have to put up with the smokies NORTH of the Red River as well! I always heard that the Texas cops sat and waited to nab us Okies.

It sounds like there's a lot of crappy construction going on along I-35 (http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/OU/article.aspx?subjectid=92&articleid=20091016_93_0_Ifyour286716). I suppose I shouldn't complain that they're improving our roads.

Drive safe, everyone. I'm staying on this side of the "river" this time.

Stupid speed trap Ardmore ;)

Probably not smart to speed at all (or go more than about 5 over) during OU/TX weekend because both state police departments know there will be alot of people traveling and wanting to get down to Dallas ASAP...easy moneymaking opportunity for them.

Oklahoma takes the LONGEST time to repair roads... Took how many years to widen i-35 in OKC? Hell in Texas they get that done in no time...A 15 mile stretch in Houston I-10 was widened by 8 lanes both sides and completed in just 4 years or so...

They have been working on stretches of I-35 for at least 20 years.

I heard a stat a while back... you know which state spends more per mile on highway maintenance than any other?

Kansas.

Yes on the scanner.

They are still at it too so slow down. They just stopped two more one going 87 and one going 84.

100% true. In Kansas it's more important to have a smooth ride through one-lane in a perpetual construction zone than it is to have educated children.

Our government is f*ck dumb, and too scared to do anything that might prevent re-election, of either them or their party.

I hate government. Ron Paul, 2012.

It depends on how it's funded, TxDOT has a hard time building a road in any reasonable time using gas tax money. In Texas I-35 has been under construction for the past 30 years+ that I know of. I-35 south of Gainesville seemed to take 15 years to finish in the 80-90's, they have been working on Ben White (US-290) here in Austin as long as my wife has lived here (14 years). You don't want to see how long it would take them to do something with I-35 through Austin, it took them about 15 years to do Central Expressway in Dallas.

The new I-10 stretch from Katy was built with toll bonds, that is why the toll/pay-HOV lanes are there, toll roads are fully funded from the start instead of the incremental gas tax model. The same reason why the Kilpatrick Turnpike was built out as quickly as it was.

Texas also drags projects out in the design phase, you do a preliminary design/assessment and put it on the shelf and TxDOT may "activate" the project 5 years later after the area has built up and you have go through the entire process again...plus they also happened to "lose" a billion dollars a couple of years ago.

Even with the construction in OK the DFW-OKC section of I-35 is way better than the Austin-DFW section.

They have been working on stretches of I-35 for at least 20 years. probably more than that. We used to drive I-35 when i was a kid, heading down to see my grandpa. I can't remember a single trip that there wasn't construction and I'm 24.

Heh. That's just Kellogg. Actually the turnpike is pretty nice. Oklahoma could take notes.

Hell, in Oklahoma some of the worst highways are ones they just got finished with. (I'm looking at you, I-35 from Blackwell north...) Really, you could train a crew of orangutans to pave a road smoother than that.

But yeah, don't get me started on Kansas' educational system.

I-35 is WAY better than I-40 and i haven't seen it all the way out West

but you can really tell when you hit Kansas

as for the speed trap, i think they were gone by the time i hit there. i think i might have seen the plane bailing :D

that was probably somewhere around 1700

and Denton sucked. took me like 45 minutes to get through there

there was no construction though. both lanes open the whole way

10/16/2009, 11:07 PM
I-40 out west wasn't TOO terrible from what I remember of the last time I drove to Albuquerque. (OK, it was the ONLY time I've ever driven to Albuquerque.)

10/16/2009, 11:13 PM
um, i meant East

yeah, it seems like it's crappy from like Bricktown on out...

Oh, yeah, east is pretty crap. Although at least ONE of the bridges is new.

Ba-dum... CRASH!

You'll always get stuck in Denton on a Friday afternoon, whether it's OU/TX weekend or not. I35 is way outdated through there, they need more lanes, but there's no room to widen it.
