On news right now. A 6yr old in a hot air balloon that looks like a flying saucer. The balloon is airborn and floating across the state of Colorado.

"The boy's father Richard Henne is a known storm chaser. During an apperance on the television program WifeSwap, Henne and his wife, Mayumi, focused on their love of science. "

it's not every day you get a story about a kid flying around untrammeled over the plains of Northern Colorado in an experimental aircraft *and* Wifeswap.

I hope to hell he didn't drop from 8500 feet.

It's hard to tell, but the earliest pictures - which appear to be from near their house - indicate the plywood "cabin" fell off soon after takeoff.

Aircraft re-routed away from the north side of DIA for a period of time, dozens of authorities deployed to investigate this case, hours of local and national media time devoted to covering the story, including many news helicopters.

How much money do you suppose this little stunt cost the people of Denver, Ft. Collins, Colorado, and the US?

that could go either way. a body on the ground along the flight-path is game over and surely there's rescue teams out there doing that. if he's hiding underneath the bridge by the creek in the adjacent neighborhood scared witless, that could draw things out indefinitely (or until it gets dark).

some hope, but doesn't really look too good.

Who leaves a tethered balloon outside that kids can access? Something tells me this parent isn't all there and now (hopefully not) an innocent kid may have perished.

im sorry but being up that high for over an hour in that balloon, I dont' think there is anyway he didn't fall out. Especially with how that thing was spinning.

This story has me pissed off now that we now the kid is safe. The kid was hiding and his brother lied for him and the cops couldn't figure there were holes in the brothers story? And it took them this damn long to search every inch of the house? Imagine had a rescue somehow been attempted in the air, and a rescuer fell to his death.

Apparently my Uncle once broke something on the farm, and hid under a grain hopper from 6 or 7 hours, so I was pretty much on board with the hiding bet from the get go. Olevet is once again proving he is the wisest poster here.

So? How many storm chasers get hurt a year. You probably don't want to think about what kids on farms are exposed to.
