I have a DVD called "Sooner Magic". It is not about some mysterious mojo that OU received to win a game. It is not about lineman or defensive backs not missing assignments, although that always helps. It is about a Sooner stepping up on his own and making a big play. Whether it is Little Joe, Billy Sims, Great players and a Torrance Marshall who was just a good player stepping up on their own and making a big play. It is a punter in a National Championship game having the smarts and presence to get the ball out of the back of the end zone for a safety instead of giving up a touchdown. Again it takes everyone just doing their job and someone stepping up to make a play, that's what Sooner Magic is. It gets harder when some of your best players are standing on the sidelines with Slings and Crutches, but that is when someone on the TEAM needs to stand up for the team. That does by the way go for coaches too, you are going to be criticized in any case, you have to give the kids a chance to step up, by taking a chance and letting the kids try to make something happen, instead of trying to second guess the other team (3rd and 12 draw play, run for 9 yards and then throw a pass, holding penalty). All the great ones were Freshman once. Let the kids play, they may turn into men and maybe find some Sooner Magic in themselves.
