They hurt, and they suck. I would not recommend them for anyone.

Yes, evidently they can kill you. The closest I've ever come to the ocean is a spicy tuna roll ,so I was blissfully unaware of this tasty nugget of info until last week when I quite literally swam balls-deep into a jellyfish's home turf. The many-tentacled bastard lit me up 11 times.

After swimming the 300 yards back to shore and walking a mile a back up the beach back to my hotel the cabana boy, who evidently moonlights as a marine biologist, told me it was probably a box jellyfish.

Don't look now but rising ocean temperatures have led to jellyfish "blooms".

They are just as deadly to fish as they are irritating to humans.
