Why is there an outline of Texass and a star where Dallas is on KANSAS CITY's helmets?

The Kansas City Chiefs are the former Dallas Texans.

It's been so long I can't even remember. Probably has something to do with Lamar Hunt being from Texas and the Chiefs once being the Dallas Texans.

Kellog has it right, the franchise started in Dallas but they soon realized Dallas couldnt hold two franchises so he moved to KC

What I don't get is why Lamar Hunt had to be the one to move. Joe and Troy keep saying that the Texans were the better team in Dallas in the early 60s. Why couldn't Clint Murchison pack up his **** and leave town?

It's ESPN's agenda against OU... they're having everyone sport Texas gear this week. :D

Tashard Choice makes a nice long run for a Dallas touchdown.

Damn people don't you know about the AFL? Just how old are some of you? :) Broncos got hit by the ugly stick today. Changed channels twice because I thought the HD feed was screwed up & coming out of Cleveland. LMAO at the sox. Maybe they're going auction those pants and sox after the game to Denver bicycle riders who ride at night.

I like those old unis. The Bronco's ones are a bit much, but for the most part those old unis have character, something that can't be said for the cookie cutter crap that they all wear these days.

All the jokes about my wife aside, even SHE didn't know about them being in Dallas...of course, they moved to KC the year she was born.

Apparently Lamar Hunt approached Bud Wilkinson about coaching the Dallas Texans. Both he and Tom Landry turned him down, so Hunt went with Hank Stram.

Because the Cowboys were in the established NFL and the Texans were in a new, upstart league, the AFL. Even though the Cowboys sucked at the time they outdrew the Texans at The Cotton Bowl where they both played. The Texans even won the AFL Championship against Houston in 1962.

When the WFL or USFL moved to compete directly against the NFL in the fall who did you hear more about? The NFL has always been the 800 pound gorilla in football, it took the AFL teams finally beating them before merging happened.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS including Dallas Texans

*1 This franchise was originally based in Dallas and known as the 'Texans'; this is the helmet used by the Dallas Texans from 1960 through 1962. The team moved to Kansas City and changed its name to the 'Chiefs' for the 1963 season.
This design was used once again during the 2009 home game against Dallas.
*2 The arrowhead logo was significantly larger during this period than on the current helmet, and the black outlines around the arrowhead and the letters "KC" were narrower.
