Stoops makes announcement after Friday morning meeting with quarterback.

Sam Bradford

NORMAN, Okla. -- Sam Bradford, winner of the 2008 Heisman Trophy, will start at quarterback for Oklahoma in the Sooners' game against Baylor, Saturday.

The junior has been out since the season opener (Sept. 5) when he suffered a sprained shoulder joint.

"Sam has had a great week of practice and is ready to play," said OU Head Coach Bob Stoops after a morning meeting with Bradford. "We're obviously excited to have him back.

"We remain very pleased with the work Landry Jones did in replacing Sam and our entire program has a lot of confidence in his ability," Stoops added.

No. 17 Oklahoma (2-2, 0-0 Big 12) and Baylor (3-1, 0-0 Big 12) face off at 2:30 p.m. (CT) on Owen Field. The matchup will be televised regionally by ABC. Fans should consult the network's coverage map to see if their local ABC affiliate will have the OU game.

A limited number of tickets are also available for this Saturday's Baylor football game. View this release for complete information. For complete coverage throughout the week and broadcast options for following the Sooners around the world, please visit Sooner Gameday Central.

Excellent! I think this was absolutely essential if we wanted to play Bradford against Texas and have him be in sync with the offense (or get the offense in sync). That said, I hope we let him get in a rhythm for a half and then pull him early.

Bob cracks me up. All week he plays things so close to the vest that you don't know if Sam will ever play again, and now he couldn't be more fired up. That's the way you play the media! I don't know how many different takes I've read on what may or may not happen by various reporters and editors around the country. Well, now we now.

finnaly we hear something. now if only we could get back gresham and broyles by next week...sonofa....having a great quarterback is nice. works alot better when hes got guys to throw to. and best yet if he has a line that will let him count past 1.5 before having to unload............

For my 1st post let me say Stoops plays nice with the media a lot more then he gets credit. I'd wanna be sedated like Joey Ramone to tolerate the fiction writers. Their questions are obnoxious and generally uninformed.

Wow, what a buzzkill, man. As we've seen this year, an injury can happen to anyone at any time. Not playing someone in order to avoid an injury is illogical. He might as well still be injured then, right? If he's healthy, he plays.

Great players like Sam make other players better is all im saying, once he gets his timing these receivers will have lots of oppurtunities to make plays.

i saw lots of "opportunities" get dropped this year that could have been game changers.....the thing is, sam might get the rest of the squad playin better through leadership, not just bad *** passing. thats what it seemed like they lacked v miami. i hate to say it, but i didn't see a lot of heart out there 2nd half.

Well, CK came to OU to catch passes from a Heisman winner. He will get his chance. Ironically, if Landry pans out like we all know he can, he might have a chance to catch passes from 2 Heisman winners!

You know what i think will be interesting is to see how the national media will take to sams return. You know that the tebow injury only helped his post season awards probabilty and if Florida goes and loses this weekend, with or without him, They will make excuses and it will prove just how important tebow is to the team. I just wonder if the same will be said about OU.

This news is in a great way, certainly, no question.

And I agree that this is the time for Tennell to step up and become a playmaker. If he doesn't, then he will end up as this team's Ahmed Kabba, and we'll find somebody else to catch 8 passes in a season.

Wilson goes back to going down field this week... I hope. Now we can see if C. Kenney can be a deep threat. Maybe Jaz can be that deep threat, as the coaches have hinted to all year. This will be a good defense to test our abilities down field. If I remember right, we only have one down field pass this year... to Caleb for a TD.

A heisman winner back in the line up can only improve Coach Wilsons confidence in the offense.

Best case scenario: Sam plays through first drive of third quarter to dust off the rust, leaves game with about an 80% completion percentage, 4 TD's, 0 int's and looks like the Heisman winner we all know and love. O-line looks committed to never seeing their QB get his pants dirty again.

Worst case scenario: Bob leaves Sam in the game too long and O-line fails to pick up Baylor blitz and Sam gets re-injured, only this time he's out for the season.

Let's say our prayers tonight for the former.

We could win the game 80-0, and there'll be a dozen or more dillweeds on this board going "****ing Wilson. Can you believe he called a run on 3rd and 8?" or "Fire Vulnerables!!" That one is guaranteed. A large portion of our "fan" base pretty much sucks the big one when it comes to figuring out why we've lost those games this year.

Kenney, Caleb and Miller with Madu in the slot as well.
