Could it be those flimsey pads they wear now-a-days? What happened to those huge as hell look like Frankenstein shoulder pads. Hell I even used some shoulder pads one year in college to go as Frankenstein.

I was pondering if it was something to do with new turf on some fields.

There is quite a bit of technology in those thinner pads.

We also don't build cars out of solid steel anymore because there is greater impact resistance in alternative metals plus weight savings.
