Bob is 5-10 in games decided by 4 pts or less since he came here; by comparison, Switzer was 21-4 in his 16 seasons in the same games; we need some Sooner Magic to come back and it needs to come back pretty damn quickly.

PS. This is not a thread to bash Bob, but i didn't realize our record in close games was that damn bad

Mike took the bag with the Sooner Magic in it to the desert.

I think our swagger was in the bag too.

We may be the best team in the country at blowouts over the past 10 years, but get punched in the mouth and it is assume the fetal position

We need Barry on the sidelines as a good luck charm against the good teams :)

It does? Do the Refs have to cart them off the field and into an ambulance?

I was thinking this same thing last night...we just haven't been able to win the "gut-check" games very often lately.

But 4 seems like a weird number to pick. I'd call it a close game if it's a 1-possession game, so here are the numbers for games that are 8 points or less:

1999: 0-2 (ND and Mississippi)
2000: 3-0 (A&M, OSU, KSU)
2001: 2-1 (W: KSU, Arkansas; L: OSU)
2002: 1-1 (W: Missouri; L: A&M)
2003: 1-1 (W: Alabama; L: LSU)
2004: 2-0 (OSU, A&M)
2005: 4-2 (W: Baylor, Nebraska, A&M, Oregon; L: TCU, Tech)
2006: 3-2 (W: UAB, A&M, OSU; L: Oregon, Boise State)
2007: 1-2 (W: Texas; L: Colorado, Tech)
2008: 0-0
2009: 0-2 (BYU, Miami)

Total:17-13

Games that don't fall into this category but felt like close games:
2001 Texas (W)
2001 Nebraska (L)
2002 Alabama (W)
2007 Missouri (W)
2008 Texas (L)
2008 Florida (L)

That runs the total up to 20-16. But what's most interesting to me...and alludes to what Curly Bill said...is that if you split it up along the Mike Stoops Line, it's like this:

With Mike Stoops: 9-5
Without Mike Stoops: 11-11

(I'm counting the LSU game as "without Mike Stoops" since he had already taken the job at that time.)

If you take out the two "non-10-win" seasons...in other words, only look at our best teams...it looks like this:

With Mike Stoops: 9-3
Without Mike Stoops: 7-9 (counting this year...7-7 not counting this year)
