Some W/L stats since 2004 (5 yrs)

OU is 16-14 away from Norman starting with the 2005 Orange Bowl. I keep repeating this record in the forums, because it kind of surprised me. It didn’t register in my Crimson mind that OU was just above .500 away from home during that time.

Reviewing www.soonerstats.com, shows the following:
(Yr, end of season OU ranking, W/L and rank of opp)

2004: #3
Lost: USC #1
Beat: Tech #18, Texas #5

2005: #22
Lost 4: TCU #14, UCLA #17, Texas #1, Tech #18
Beat: Oregon #12. No other wins over a ranked team

2006: #11
Lost: Oregon NR, Texas #13, Boise #5
Beat: NO ranked teams

2007: #8
Lost: Colorado NR, Tech NR, W.Va #11
Beat: Texas #17, Missouri #7, no other wins/ranked

2008: #5
Lost: Texas #4, Florida #1
Beat: TCU #7, Cincinnatti #17, Tech #12, OSU #16, MO #19

Avg end of season rank: 9.8
Avg rank of ranked opp win: 13.4 (wins over 10 ranked opp in 5 yrs)
Avg rank of ranked opp lost 13.5 (using rank of 30 for NR opp)

Record vs. ranked teams: 10-10

2009:
Lost: BYU #x, Miami #y

Record vs. ranked teams 05-09: 10-12
2 Heisman trophies during this time.

So, what does this show? That OU lost to a few more ranked teams than they beat. Notice, (5) of those victories came last year. So, at home we’re pretty hard to beat, and on the road not so much. Granted (2) of those losses came at the expense of some horrendous calls, i.e. Oregon, Tech.

So, I am going to have fun the rest of the season, enjoying games, hoping for wins over Texas, OSU, and the rest of the Big 12. I will cheer for “upset” wins against quality opponents, and wonder if OU will “show up” on the road in the future.

The fact that we have gotten to play for 4 MNC’s is wild! Contrary to what a lot of Sooner fans think, that shows that we do get favorable poll and media exposure.

Have a great day.

What do you get if you remove neutral-site games?

16-6.
In other words...

OU is GREAT at home.
OU is very good on the road.
OU is terrible at a neutral site. (of course all of the neutral site games are played against our toughest competition).

In summary, you haven't discovered ANYTHING!

Just to make the record accurate we beat a ranked Missou team TWICE in 2007.When we beat them the second time I believe they were ranked higher than us(I'm thinking #2 or#3).

All of this for $4MM / year.

Bottom line - at OU we're spoiled. In the Big 10, it's all about winning the conference and going to the Rose Bowl. At OU, conference championships are assumed and it's all about putting yourself in a position to play for a National Championship. Bob has done that four times in 10 years - and that isn't bad.

As Dog would say, keep your head up; play on your toes; stay positive; and always hustle. Hang in there, Bob.

We are one of the winningest teams of the decade and have at least twice as many Big XII titles as anyone else. No one in this conference has anything on us.

TCU and WVU (suspensions/injuries) were flat out BETTER than OU at the time they played. They shouldn't have even been considered upsets.

You are going to lose some games you aren't supposed to. Every team does.

TCU and WVU better then Oklahoma. We are not every team. That should not happen. I don't care how many suspensions/injuries we had, our backups should be ready to play. Barry won the 85 OB and MC with a third string center starting at center and the second string center starting at one gaurd and a second string gaurd starting at the other gaurd.

Barry also got smoked 3 straight years by Miami.

Irrelevent, it is 2009.
