It was very much like that. Not being able to stop the run when we needed to was also a major part of the problem but if we could defend against the pass on a consistent basis it could have made the difference in the outcome of the game. We have major problems executing the zone defense. This has been going on for years but this year its reached an all time high. Whats happening is the corner-backs think they have help from a safety so they stop covering the receiver when they leave their zones. The problem is occurring when the safety is covering a different location. We need to get the zone down better or else we need to play more man to man.

I think our pass defense this year is one of the best we have had in recent history...

And you're judging this on wins against Idaho State and Tulsa?? Come on... Miami went 19-28 with 7.2 yards per pass.

the D essentially gave up 14 points.

the offensive line gave up the other 7 when they gave Miami a free shot at Landry.

We will probably end up this year with the best defense in the country by statistics...

Virginia Tech held Miami to 7 points. If we could have done that we would have won the game last night. Our defense was overrated going into this game. Our highly ranked defensive numbers were based upon beating Tulsa and Idaho State at home.

Give me a break.

Where is the statistical evidence that this is going to be one of the best defenses?

Va Tech had to rally just to beat Nebraska this year.

Look, other than a small handful of players who played well, you can blame this loss on the entire team, however we have not been able to defend against the pass on a consistent basis for a long time now.

Yes, the offense is to blame as well. We cant run the ball and our O line cant block worth a damn. We are constantly in 3rd and long. It reminds me of the days when Chuck was here. Its not real hard to defend against us. You can definitely lay a lot of that on Kevin's head, however we have some ongoing defensive problems that need to be fixed; problems that we've had since way before these players graduated from high school.

Ya. It seems like if you criticize the team in any way you aren't a fan.

I think our pass defense this year is one of the best we have had in recent history...If by "one of the best we have had in recent history" you mean not as bad as we usually are then you need to remember who we've beaten this year and ask yourself if that defines our best.

There isn't anything I could drink that would make me think this D is great at defending the pass.

That's the funniest line I've heard all day. But then it's still early.
