Jones Will be Starting QB at Miami

Stoops said Bradford has progressed, but not quite ready.

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma Head Football Coach Bob Stoops said today that Landry Jones will be the starting quarterback when the No. 8-ranked Sooners play Saturday at No. 17 Miami.
The team also had practiced this week with Sam Bradford, who suffered a shoulder joint sprain in the season opener against BYU.

"Sam has made daily progress, but we don't feel like he's quite where he needs to be yet," Stoops said. "Our team has a lot of confidence in Landry's ability and we're looking forward to going into the game with him at quarterback. Our approach will be the same that it has been in the last two games"

Jones, a redshirt freshman, set a school record in his last outing when he threw six touchdown passes against Tulsa on Sept. 19. For the season, he is 49-of-81 for 673 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions.

Bradford, who won the Heisman Trophy last season, has been sidelined since incurring the injury on Sept. 5, in Arlington, Texas.

Oklahoma and Miami, both 2-1, will meet at 7 p.m., Saturday on ABC. View Sooner Gameday Central (http://www.soonersports.com/ot/2009_gameday_central_04.html) for complete information on the game.

If Sammy's not ready for Miami, I'd feel more comfortable just holding him out until Fexus. He should be able to get his timing back in practice and be ready to shred the whorns.

I would be more comfortable if he played half a game against Baylor. That way he will get his game experience.

who ever starts against Baylor will only be playing the first half, score wise...].

I want Sam to start a game before Texas.. that is all

^ This is correct. Holding Sam out til * would be goofy. Practice does not get you ready for what you face in a game.

To give Jones a fightin chance, the O-line must protect him and our D has to contain the 'big play'. With plenty of motivation from the media writing them off, this is THE game for Miami to re-establish themselves.

I'm good with this decision to start Jones. He's playing well and can def use the 'big game' experience...putting yet another feather in his helmet for the starting job in '10. Give Sammy a lil' more rest...knock the rust off for a quarter or so next week, then turn him loose on TexAss.

Get well, Sammy!
