wow, a freakin guy that plays golf (really good). great for him. Moving out of California saved him something like 10 Mil/year, LOL.

If you would have told me this 15 years ago and said that the guy was a golfer, I would have said "suuuure he is".

And somewhere in Cleveland, Lebron is crying.

since Mickelson is in the top 5 as well, i'd say you're astonishment is kind of misplaced. look at who advertises during Sunday of golf tournaments. major investment corporations.

the "golf crowd" is a major money demographic.

If I could just sniff the interest off 1 billion dollars for one week, I'd be set for life.

it's like my buddy Mike used to say about the late-era Beastie Boys: "it's easy to be a Buddhist when you are rich".

In addition to being in a rich-person sport, Tiger is someone that is unique... he's young, he Cau-bla-na-asian (or whatever that word is), he's exciting to watch, he has a temper, he's good at what he does.

Someone mentioned Lebron... he's got a good smile. It's more than you can say about many NBA players that don't suck. That will get him Nike and Sprite , but to really get a global presence, he is going to have to do more or be more than just a basketball player in Cleveland.

I remember reading an article about him 15+ years ago that discussed if he would ever reach the $1 billion mark. Their conclusion was possible but not likely.

I wouldn't think Mickelson is anywhere near Woods in terms of career earnings.

Earnings? It's all sponsorship. What Eldrick makes from Buick & Nike FAR eclipse his tour earnings.
edit: also, Phil is usually in the tops in the biggies. That is still a lot of ducats.

Tiger's tour earnings are just under $93mm.

Phil is just under $56mm.

Yeah I'm talking about career earnings (including sponsorships/endorsements), not tour earnings. The 1bn number obviously is tied to career earnings and I'd have a hard time believing Phat Phil is anywhere near that.

Well, I don't think even Pay-Rod is making $56mm a year.

Don't forget Gatorade. That exclusive branding agreement made him a metric asston of cash, and still does (gets royalties on every bottle sold).
