Vikings Bring Cooper Up From Practice Squad

Associated Press

Posted Sep 29, 2009

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -The Minnesota Vikings have swapped backup centers again, waiving Kory Lichtensteiger and signing Jon Cooper from the practice squad.

Cooper made the final cut out of training camp, but was waived the next day when Lichtensteiger was signed after being dropped by the Denver Broncos. The undrafted rookie Cooper was then placed on the practice squad.

John Sullivan is set as the starter. Reserve lineman Ryan Cook can also fill in at center.

Also, the Vikings signed offensive tackle Patrick Brown to the practice squad and wide receiver Nick Moore was released from the eight-person squad.

Not all that surprised. Cooper may not be the biggest guy, but he's for sure one of the smartest. I'm gonna have to become a Minnesota fan, it's turning into the Oklahoma Vikings. Great for Coop!!!!

Gotta figure a way to get Sam to the Vikes, if Farverer can stay alive long enough to give him some nfl tutelage...

Oh, and way to go Coop!!! We're proud of ye.

I am happy for him. I think as we get more OU alums in the NFL, more will work to get their ex-teammates jobs. You already see this with some other players around the league.

I am still not a Vikings fan (guess who they play on MNF real soon), but it is good to see these guys getting NFL contracts and continuing their careers beyond Owen Field.

I've watched all of the Vikes games this year. It looks to me like the starter, Sullivan, is struggling making the calls on the blitzes. Favre is getting killed.

I know they were impressed with Cooper's mental game. I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility for him to eventually beat this guy out.

Well they did sign him in place of the guy they originally put him on the practice squad for so either the other guy was really bad or they like Coopers future with the team. Either way, im glad he is gonna go make some money and get to play despite his size issues

i'd love to see coop and big Phil on the same line again. bustin' open some holes for AD. (and maybe "letting a couple blocks go" when harvin is running the ball ;) )

I've said it for a while...Minnesota was so thin and terrible at C that it was the best place for him...Plus they hadn't invested anything in any other center, so he was going to get a fair shot at it..

Its just tough to make it in the league without being able to play 2 positions and I don't know if he can bulk up any

Now, if they can only get big Duke they would have the left side complete.
