So in my entire webernet existence, I have uploaded exactly one (1) video to Youtube. Yesterday, I get an email from youtube saying:
Your video 'Cops tackle fan on field at Yankee Stadium final game' has become popular on YouTube, and we'd like to invite you to start making money from it by including it in the YouTube Partnership Program
And they ask you to go thru a tutorial about what is and isn't copyright violation, because if your video doesn't pass muster, they will delete it (even if the copyright owners have never said anything).
The problem here is that for what my video is (the title is rather descriptive), I have no idea how the hell copyright applies if at all. This occured after the game was over. I was originally just trying to get a video of the enormous police presence on the field, and happened to catch (from way in the upper deck), a fan running onto the field, whom about 20 cops promptly tackled and arrested. There's no music.
Can I reasonably make the claim that I am the owner of this content? I have never asked for permission to distribute this video from either the fan that got tackled, or the cops. Can the Yankees, MLB, the NYPD, or the tackled fan make reasonable claims that they are the owners of this content (as far as I know, this event never appeared on the TV broadcast of the post-game events).
The reason I ask, is that apparently they will review the video before enabling ads on it if I do that, and if they think I'm not the copyright owner, they'll delete it. I'd rather not have my video deleted. And besides, I am just plainly curious how cpoyright law might apply to this kind of situation.
