Can't argue with Va Tech in front of us, they had a better loss and a better win. But USC? Wow...I understand they beat OSU on the road but that loss to Washington and their lackluster performance against Wazzu last night should not have allowed them to jump us. C'mon Cal Bears, do your worst to Pete and the Trojans next week!

Yeah. Let's wait for the AP. I think VT deserves to be ahead of us, and maybe so does Ohio State.. but if they didn't deserve it last week I don't see how they deserve it this week. Not like it matters. Win out and we will be there.

I get that. But based on that reasoning, they shouldn't have dropped them below us after last week.

tOSU is moving up, making that a bigger win. The loss was with their starting QB on the sideline. But 'SC is now done with "big" games with ND and Cal being exposed - hopefully another UW-type team will bite them again. Regardless, we end the year as the highest 1-loss team -- if we can win out. But that will be a huge feat, so why worry about the polls now.

Yeah, it's usually week 8.

I know it's early to be worried about stuff like this, and many of you may be right that it will all shake out by the end of the year, but I just have a great fear that our recent string of failures will have poll voters looking for excuses to keep us out of the big game. Particularly because it is USC moving ahead of us, it just stinks of that pervasive (and false) sentiment they seem to engender each year: "Even though we stepped on our dicks against some also-ran in the PAC-10, we're really the best team and deserved to play for the MNC instead of whoever happened to come in second." With Tebow possibly on the sidelines, ESPN will be more than happy to pick up that refrain again.

Yes, Auburn '04 can happen. As can the flock of 2 loss teams after the '07 season. In both those cases, the SOS is what made the difference and we have all the top teams beat in that area. I just don't get the angst over a couple of rungs on a popularity ladder right now. We've played one decent team and we lost. It looks to me like we are getting lots of respect based on potential at this point.

No need to worry about the polls, if OU takes care of business then everything will fall right in place. There are 3 SEC teams in front of OU. Only 1 can make it. We play Texas. VA Tech could possibly have another lost when they go to Georgia Tech. USC has at least one more loss they will incur (@CAL,@Notre Dame, and @Oregon) they will lose at least one of those games. If OU wins out no way does Boise stay in front of OU by only beating one ranked team in Oregon. So lets just chill and watch things play out. OU is in a perfect postion besides its the BCS polls that matter and computers are going to love OU

I think it's just a precursor of things to come.
If any SEC team has one loss, even if they lose in the championship game, they will be ranked ahead of us.
The Pac 10 can screw us based on USC love. USC could win out, and stay ahead of us. Cal could win out (beating USC) and jump us. Va Tech could easily win out and stay ahead of us.

Remember, human polls (coaches and harris) are 2/3 of the equation.

Seriously guys, if we win out we'll have 12 consecutive wins, including wins at Miami, over Texas, at KU, at Nebraska, at TT, and another win over KU or Nebraska in the Big 12 title game. It will be mathematically impossible to keep us out of the big game if there's not more than two undefeated teams. Breathe.

We did this to ourselves...not the voters.

I agree, and BYU' s unexplainable blowout loss to FSU in Provo makes it even more complicated. Either BYU's win against you guys OR their loss to FSU was a total fluke. I dont think any reasonable college football fan could think both were. Add in by extension FSU's performance against Jax State and USF and it even gets murkier. Unpredictability--that's why I LOVE college football!:)

Good Luck to your Team BTW.

I got to peek in on the ramma jammas a few times yesterday. Like us...they have some issues but I think...Like us....you guys have as good a chance at getting there as anyone in the top 15 right now...well except aggie....they are smokin crack all the time.

Thanks. Same to my crimson brethren in Norman. One thing I do like about our team is our BALANCE--we can pass, run, and play pretty good D. We'll just have to see what happens as we get into SEC play....Thankfully we're off to a pretty good start, save for the season-ending injury to Donta Hightower. We are going to miss him BADLY....

slap in the face. WOW. AND WASHINGTON LOST!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!!!

Yeah, BYU getting bithed slapped by halFsSU and then the noles going down didn't help.

We can't bitch until we win a big, non-regional game. Miami was clearly looking ahead to next week, now the glam has been tarnished from that one, too.

End of the day, we ain't getting any love and we don't deserve until we make some noise. We MUST beat the canes and dominate texas.

Dang, you just gotta hate the SEC, right? ;)

Seriously, I don't think LSU has any business being ranked the 4th best team any more than you guys do. Any street cred that they had from the win in Seattle is out the window with Washington's loss this weekend, IMO. It took a goal line stand a la OU/Nebraska 1984 for them to beat State this weekend. They have a lot of talent but I still think they've got qb problems. Keep your eye on their game against UF.....

Apparently the pollsters don't think Washington has played anyone, because USC lost to them last week and jumped us, and LSU is currently the world's overrated team.

We're overrated if you just count accomplishments. We're the highest rated 1-loss team with only 2 wins and none against BCS or ranked opponents. We are getting tons of style points from stomping an unrated Tulsa team. But if we leave Dallas at 5-1, we'll be top 5 and deservedly so.

I picked a bad day to stop using amphetamines.

I thought we would be 7 or higher, wishful thinking.

We are the highest randed 2 win team. Give it some time.

The voters must still have questions about our QB situation and the defense. LOL

Anyone who ranks LSU 4th is either biased or didn't watch the Mississippi State game. LSU didn't win the game so much as the Bulldogs lost it. Against a decent, more settled team, LSU loses that game by a couple of touchdowns, IMO.

Nice to see that a little whining at ESPN HQ still gets results. I was beginning to wonder after we passed OSU last week. Good job Rittenberg.

I guess our conference sucks again this year, there's only 6 teams in the top 25.
