Landry Jones
Sept. 21, 2009
NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones, who set a school record with six touchdown passes in the Sooners' 45-0 win over Tulsa last Saturday, has been named the Big 12 Conference's Offensive Player of the Week.
Making just the second start of his career, the redshirt freshman broke the mark previously held by Heisman Trophy winners Sam Bradford and Jason White along with Heisman runner-up Josh Heupel.
Jones also tied the NCAA record for the second-most touchdown passes by a freshman. Jones ended the game 25-of-37 for 336 yards with two interceptions. His touchdown throws covered 7, 63, 13, 10, 14 and 35 yards.
The league's players of the week are selected by a media panel. Texas LB Roddrick Muckelroy captured the defensive honor, while Nebraska punter Alex Henery was cited for special teams play.
