BLACKWATER DRAW, NM - The Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds dropped a heartbreaker Saturday night as the opened their home slate against the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Savage Storm. Sophomore quarterback J.J. Harp (QB, Soph., Argyle, Tx/Argyle High School,) was once again sensational, shattering three NCAA records during the contest. Harp was 64-94 for 767 and three touchdowns, breaking the NCAA records for single-game completions, single-game attempts, and single-game passing yards. Harp's 64 completions broke the previous mark of 58, set by Andy Schmitt of Eastern Michigan in 2008. Harp's 94 attempts broke the previous record of 85, set by Jeremy Moses of Stephen F. Austin in November of 2008. Harp's total of 767 yards also managed to break the previous record of 731, set by Zamir Amin of Menlo College during October, 2000.

The Greyhound offense seemingly moved up and down the field at will during Saturday's contest, racking up 47 first downs during the game. The Hounds managed to pile up 775 yards of total offense, shattering the previous ENMU record of 686 yards for team total offense set in 1988, despite being penalized 13 times for 178 yards. Darian Dale (WR, Soph., Bay City, Tx/Bay City High School,) broke the ENMU single game record for receptions, reeling in 14 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore Jesse Poku (WR, Soph., Murphy, Tx/Richardson High School,) also turned in an exceptional stat line, hauling in 12 receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown. Local product Chase Kyser (WR, Fr., Roswell, NM/Goddard High School,) also had an impressive performance, catching 11 passes for 126 yards and a score. Arvis Jackson (WR, Soph., Houston, Tx/Westside High School,) was the fourth receiver on the team with over 120 yards, turning in nine receptions for 179 yards. Troy Harris (RB, Fr., Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho High School,) had a productive game on the ground for the Hounds, averaging over five-yards per carry and turning in 86 yards on 15 attempts with one score.

Definsively, ENMU was led by Texavier Henry (LB, Sr., Pearland, Tx/Pearland High School,) who tallied 15 tackles, including five solo stops and one forced fumble. Nathan Uland (LB, Jr., Denton, Tx/Ryan High School,) also had a productive game on the defensive side, recording nice tackles, including two solo tackles.

On special teams, sophomore placekicker Taylor Cannon (PK, Soph., Los Lunas, NM/Los Lunas High School,) also managed to record an excellent contest, connecting on 6-7 field goals from 33, 41, 31, 36, 38, and 37 yards. Cannon's lone miss was from 42 yards out. Cannon also connected on three PATs.

After a Josh Johnson rush put the Savage Storm on top to begin the fourth quarter, the Hounds would return the following kick off to the ENMU 22-yard line. Harp was automatic during the drive, connecting on seven of nine attempts, including the go-ahead score, when he completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Kyser. At Cannon extra point would put the Hounds up 43-37.

On their next possession, SOSU would go three-and-out, turning the ball over to the Hounds after a 26-yard punt. The Greyhounds would drive within field goal range before Cannon would record his only miss of the contest, going wide right from 42 yards out.

The Savage Storm would waste little time on their next possession, only needing 19 seconds and one play to go 75 yards for the touchdown after Baylen Laury managed to shed several tackles en route to a long touchdown run. A two-point attempt by Johnson would fail, leaving the score at 49-44 in favor of SOSU.

The Hounds would score once more on their next drive as Cannon would connect on a 37-yard field goal, pulling ENMU to within two points.

As the final SOSU drive stalled at the ENMU 46-yard line, the drama would begin to unfold. Down two points with 33 seconds remaining in the contest, the Hound offense would take the field. On the first play from scrimmage, Harp would connect with Kyser, gaining 47 yards and putting the ENMU offense in field goal range. Harp would spike the ball with nine seconds remaining the contest. A fumbled snap on the ensuing field goal attempt would be recovered by the Savage Storm. SOSU would knee the ball as time expired to seal the contest, 49-47 in favor of the visitors.

With the loss, the Hounds fall to 1-2 on the season while the Savage Storm would improve to 2-1. The Hounds will return to Blackwater Draw next week when they host the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce. TAMU-C is 0-3 after suffering an overtime loss to Abilene Christian. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

Let me get this straight. ENMU racked up 775 yards of total offense ... and lost? Who's their defensive coordinator, Maurice Gamelin?

To be fair, I am shocked they only got 47 points out of all that.

HOW in the name of all that is holy do you lose a game with that much offense?? 94 passing plays and 15 ? 121 total offensive plays for ENMU. OU only had 76 offensive plays.

192 total plays in the game? I wonder if both teams ran the no-huddle offense?
