well, would you rather end up in the biggest games every year and lose some or end up in the cotton and holiday bowl every year and win them?

It's all about National Championships. If you wanna go down as one of the greats Like Bud and Barry he needs to have at least one more. His teams' failures in January do him no good.

Like it or not

07 was a fluke. Probably just cause 7 is a lucky number.

I thought the way the team looked at the beginning of the '05 season to reflect some of the worst coaching I've seen. They got it going by the end of the season but if your going to say '05 as a whole was one of his best coaching efforts, you can count me out. This season (one game in of course) feels a lot like '05...

Here's to hoping they get the ship righted before the point in the season where they got it righted in '05.

Through 5 games we were 2-3 and really bad, we went on to finish 6-1 and our only loss was a screw job in Lubbock. Those final 7 games were a masterpiece by Stoops.

Remember how good Bomar looked those last 7 games, I think he had 2 or 3 game winning drives as well...

That 7 win season, namely blistering AtM, really put the backbone back into the program...

I've always viewed that season as the one where the coaches failed the players early (like this year) and did a good job of fixing the mistakes as the season went on. Again, that season as a whole wasn't good coaching imho. Now '06, I would say was a coaching masterpiece. It had an embarrassing finish but that had more to do with poor player execution than poor coaching.

stoops the eternal pimp

see, what I remember from the 05 season is craptastic execution....a few games into the season, and the quarterback and center couldn't even exchange the ball...all the turnovers early on...

probably cus he has turned down several jobs, do we have to rehash this same stupid BS every year, especially when his D only gave up 24 to a stacked Florida team despite our inept offense and 14 to BYU despite our inept offense

yeah, lets go over it.

over the past five years this team has dropped some unbelievable games. Games that Stoops and his assistants had no business losing. you can run your mouths about the players gotta exucute blah blah blah but there have been numerous times that their game plan was so vanilla that the oppossing coaches knew what freakin' play was coming.

I'm sick of people sucking up to these coaches. They make big money and the university and the fans deserve better than what they get come big games. Bob makes 4 million a year and by god if his assistants can't watch a freakin' play clock or have a team prepared enough to play a damn game after 8 months he better have the nads to let them have it and since it has happened repeatedly he needs to have the nads to cut em loose.

Bob is a good coach but there comes a time when people need to be accountable for the shortcomings. he has lost 5 straight bcs bowl games.

run your mouth about being in the bcs bowls. well somebody from this weak *** conference has to go. Texas has won 3 outta 4 from OU and if not for them losing some heartbreakers it would be Texas winning the big 12. OU has backed into a couple big 12 championships.

The big 12 is not a strong conference and so far anytime this coaching staff has gone up against equal coaching talent they have had their butts handed to them.

Do we want john blake? NO but this making excuses for some obvious coaching woes is getting ridiculous

1999 - That was by far the best 7 win season in OU history.
The A&M game was awesome. And I think that was the year Thatcher took a punt return to the house against OSU int he last few minutes of the game. The coaches told him to call for a fair catch. He had other plans. :)

Understand your points, this team; however, is far more talented than the team in 2005, which was riddled with two very poor recruiting classes. Thankfully, this year's team only has one of them.

My concern is that we are showing loyalty to seniors from that class when there is greater upside with some younger players.

From everything I have read and learned this week, the coaches are not taking this as the case anymore. It is understood we have a few weeks to get those younger players some experience and development, and I fully expect the coaching staff to take advantage of this opportunity.

Its funny the small difference between stoops the human and stoops the football god. Change 1 game in his resume and our conversations are revolving around whether he is bud and barrys's equal. If he is 2-2 in BCS Title games this board is a whole different animal.
