Got both box sets preordered and heading my way. No longer will I be searching in vain for something to listen to on my long, landman-related road trips.

What, no "Happiness is a Warm Gun"?:)

Would this be the new "first time in stereo" mixes?

Thanks to my father I have a closet full of vinyl, including every Beatles release.

damn Sax...at least you have me a nice neg speak :)

I have nothing against them. My dad thinks I am screwed up for not liking the Beatles. I just never got into them which I know puts me in the minority. But I do know they deserve millions of Kudos for paving the way for even greater music that came in the 60s and 70s.

Brandon, you should check out what they were doing on 1019rxp this AM. Matt Pinfield hosted his show from the Abbey Road Studio. Very cool.
There are some pics up on their website-

I agree. Today's pop music blows big time.

I'm just curious, what do you consider pop? It's a very vague word.

There's a lot of rock out there that is hitting mainstream that is very good.

Standing in the dock at Southampton,
Trying to get to Holland or France.
The man in the mac said, "You've got to go back".
You know they didn't even give us a chance.

Christ you know it ain't easy,
You know how hard it can be.
The way things are going
They're gonna crucify me.

Finally made the plane into Paris,
Honey mooning down by the Seine.
Peter Brown called to say,
"You can make it O.K.,
You can get married in Gibraltar, near Spain".

Christ you know it ain't easy,
You know how hard it can be.
The way things are going
They're gonna crucify me.

Drove from Paris to the Amsterdam Hilton,
Talking in our beds for a week.
The newspaper said, "Say what you doing in bed?"
I said, "We're only trying to get us some peace".

Christ you know it ain't easy,
You know how hard it can be.
The way things are going
They're gonna crucify me.

Saving up your money for a rainy day,
Giving all your clothes to charity.
Last night the wife said,
"Oh boy, when you're dead
You don't take nothing with you
But your soul - think!"

Made a lightning trip to Vienna,
eating chocolate cake in a bag.
The newspaper said, "She's gone to his head,
They look just like two gurus in drag".

Christ you know it ain't easy,
You know how hard it can be.
The way things are going
They're gonna crucify me.

Caught the early plane back to London.
Fifty acorns tied in a sack.
The men from the press said, "We wish you success,
It's good to have the both of you back".

Christ you know it ain't easy,
You know how hard it can be.
The way things are going
They're gonna crucify me.
The way things are going
They're gonna crucify me.

I think there are two ways to look at pop. One being, anything that makes the top 40 on the pop charts. The second and probably more accurate for me personally, would be music with its focus on hooks and marketability, often not written by the performer. AKA, bubblegum...see American Idol.

At the time the Beatles were starting out they just played rock and roll, but rock and roll was NICE back then. This resulted in a group of guys who wrote great songs, but due to the times and being handsome young men, unwittingly became the first...boy band.

To there credit, their writing became better and their persona's got weirder. They were able to, in my opinion, step away from pop into the rock and roll they aspired to play.

The Beatles in 1957. George Harrison is 14, John Lennon is 16, and Paul McCartney is 15.
