Stuff like this encourages people to become evil and do things for selfishness. Gresham, Sam, Mccoy all come back together and this happens; you know the Same thing happened to michigan when Henne and Hart came back to win a championship; They struggled with injuries the entire year and ended up in the outback bowl. **** it, get what you can, when you can get it, because this world loves to take from the meek and humble, and Tebow walks his Cagney and Lacey hips all over the field in perfect health.

There won't be any money till they measure up!
The NFL does not draft athletes to give them money, they draft them to play and play hard in order to EARN the money. Get real people! The draft possibilities for Sam and Gresh have taken a nosedive till they can prove they are healthy and capable of playing. The NFL does not look at the world through rose colored glasses, nor do they hand out money just because a player is from OU.

I like how the one guy in here who is educated in the draft is saying things completely opposite of the mouthbreathers/reactionaries and that the mouthbreathers/reactionaries simply can't handle the informed opinion.

Jermaine came back to win a championship. That obviously won't be happening now. He'll report to the combine in a few months and that knee will be poked and prodded for hours. When it's reported that the knee is structurally fit, all will be forgotten and Jermaine Gresham will be a very rich man come April.

This injury should not drop Gresham out of the 1st round of the draft. As was previously posted, Willis McGahee had a MUCH worse knee injury than Gresham and he was still drafted in the 1st round. McGahee tore multiple ligaments, not cartilage like Gresham.

Joking aside, this might be the most accurate of the three Gresham threads. KOCO reported that Gresham's out, Tulsa World reported that Stoops said the report is inaccurate right now... but that his status would be determined later.

Thus, Gresham indeed "may or may not be out for the season."

However, his status is NOT set in stone yet.

Not much. I had a little meniscus tear (doc described it as equivalent to a hangnail, and it hurt like a sumbeyotch), they put me under for an hour, made two little holes in my knee, went in, snipped it off, smoothed it out and I was walking without pain in three days. Running again in about four weeks. I've since done two half-marathons and a bunch of 10ks. This was six years ago and I'm 53 years old. I have to imagine JG would heal a lot faster than an old guy like me.

It really depends on what the damage is to the cartilage as to how long he'll be out. I'm surprised, honestly, that they haven't already done it so he could be recuperating, though, admittedly, when the injury first happened, the doc had me put ice on it and it was okay in a couple of weeks and we thought it had healed itself, until it blew up again seven months later.

Bob Stoops just announced in his press conference that Gresham will have arthroscopic surgery today on his knee. He said once his knee is scoped, they will be able to see what the real problem is and what needs to be done. This could mean an injury to be back in a couple of weeks, or a serious injury meaning hes out for the season.

whats arthroscopic surgery involve?

Three small holes around the knee. I think 2 for tools and one for the camera. Hopefully JG just has some loose cartilage under his knee cap they can just remove and replace with scar tissue and not a big tear they have to fix up. I had the same problem with my knee years ago, my knee would lock up and I'd fall to the ground if I was running or walking. Doctor saw nothing on the MRI but a scope found the problem immediately. I was walking within a week, and running again within 5. I still have issues with my knees to this day, 16 years of soccer will do that to a person.

How can he know he is right? They hadn't had the scope yet and they couldn't see anything on the MRI? It is impossible for Mark to know (or anybody at that) unless it is something that does not pertain to the scope (like Gresham himself said he was going to set out just to be safe no matter what the scope showed). But that doesn't even make sense b/c he came back to play not to get ready for the NFL.

I think it's very unfortunate that he and Sam gave up tens of millions of dollars to play another year for us. Neither of their draft statuses will be as high in 2010 as they were in 2009.

Well when this injury is supposed to be "season ending" i would think he wouldn't be able to walk around without a limp.

I've had a torn meniscus. You aren't in constant pain. The meniscus is kind of a soft cushion between your femur and either your tibia or fibula. Just walking around isn't real painful most of the time until you step just a certain way or put pressure from a certain direction on your knee. Then it feels like someone hit you with a crow bar. It only really becomes a sustained discomfort if you stand in one place for an extended period. Moving around on the sidelines without a limp shouldn't be a huge problem for Gresh. But I'll be he was putting most of his weight on his other leg most of the night when he was standing still.

I had mine scoped and was off crutches in 2-3 days, and after a week the incisions hurt more than the surgery. Let's hope his does as well.

Sports Urinal has their heads so far up the OU's coaches A**; actually said that the BYU game was one of the rare occasions when OU gets outcoached.

Really let me count the ways.

When was the last time the coaches adjusted and the Sooners won a close one or a game they didn't deserve to win because of adjustments or a few clever plays.

Sept. 8, 2009

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Gresham, a preseason All-American, will miss the 2009 season after undergoing knee surgery, Tuesday. The senior led OU in touchdown receptions last season with 14.

"We feel badly for Jermaine," said OU Head Coach Bob Stoops. "He worked very hard and very selflessly to get himself ready for the season. We share in the disappointment he is experiencing now and will do everything we can to help him in his rehab efforts.

"The good news is that he is expected to heal fully. Many athletes have had this procedure and bounced back at 100 percent. We expect that to be the case for Jermaine."

Gresham missed the season opener against BYU, then underwent additional evaluation before athroscopic surgery on Tuesday.

Gresham, from Ardmore, Okla., entered the 2008 campaign with 26 career interceptions, just seven shy of the NCAA record for tight ends.

I hate to see it, but it looks like Bradford's & Gresham's injuries highlighted on national TV with both of them on the sidelines during our first game will result in more college players opting for the pro draft after their Jr.season (or 3 years in college)
If Sam Bradford had thrown his hat into the NFL Draft last April, there's a pretty good chance that he'd be starting an NFL game this weekend. He might even be starting for the Lions, with $41.7 million in guaranteed money to cushion any future falls he might take in life. Instead, he's hoping that he only misses two games for the University of Oklahoma after getting crushed during the Sooners' opening loss to BYU on Saturday night and hoping that NFL teams don't think less of a quarterback with an injured shoulder. Whenever a player of Bradford's stature returns to college, there is a cheer from those that believe there's some kind of higher calling to college sports that he did it for the love of the game. There's also a cheer from the NCAA and athletic departments that they'll get to cash in on having a superstar player who plays for them for free while putting his future earning potential at risk to help them win a vote of writers and coaches. Dez Bryant, Eric Berry and Bradford's teammate Gerald McCoy all saw everything they needed to see when Bradford was helped off the field with trainers. The narration in each of their heads couldn't have been anything other than "Please God let me stay healthy this year so that I can go pro and get my money come April." Not that they even needed Bradford to provide the motivation. Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Greshem, projected to be a first round pick before returning to Norman, is probably going to miss the season after knee surgery that will turn him from an instant millionaire to a guy who will have to prove himself all over again during drills. And Greshem hurt his knee during practice, which is going to lead to a lot of enraged college coaches wondering why their star players aren't going the extra mile during workouts this season.

Throw in the fact that there's labor unrest in the NFL which will almost certainly lead to a rookie salary cap come 2011 and you've got a perfect storm that will leave the 2010 senior class looking like something out of the scab games played during the NFL players strike in 1987. But it is Bradford, Heisman Trophy winner that he is, that will loom largest when players are making up their mind about choosing between partying with co-eds and partying with co-eds while earning a hefty salary. If it could happen to Bradford, it could happen to anyone. So why in the world would you take the risk? http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/sports/Sam-Bradfords-Injury-Will-Cause-an-Avalanche-of-Early-Draft-Entries-57736742.html

Sad for him for what he lost by passing up the NFL last year and the fact that he may even have to get a medical redshirt and play next year to prove he can still play. Sad for the Sooner nation that he is gone for the year after believing we had him. It may sound like heresy given Bradford one the heisman but I firmly believe Gresham will be missed more in this offense than Bradford. Regardless, this has been one hell of a nightmare. I'm not liking college football much at the moment. :(

This is literally the worst case scenario as far as convincing guys to come back for more college glory even if they are NFL draft eligible. If you remember, all of the Ohio St guys came back last year and although I don't think any of them were injured, I'm pretty sure a few of them hurt their draft status. Like Laurenitus (sp?) was a top 10 pick if he had come out before last season but I think he slipped to late 1st/2nd round? It's sad but true, the days of guys sticking around for more collegiate glory are gone, and given what's happened to Sam and Jermaine (or Jeremy, as ESPN.com said), I can't say I blame them. It's not ALL about the money, but imagine if someone was going to guarantee you millions of dollars...it'd be tough to gamble with that, no matter who you are.

The only way I see him coming back is if it's not fully healed and he's not recovering in time to get a draft report from the NFL guys. Like if they say, well because no one wants to take a risk on your knee, the highest teams said they'll take you is late in round 2. Not saying that's the case, but you could see how that'd make him come back to show his top 15 draft ranking from 2008.
