If you were to show up at my place right now you'd get mauled and licked to death by 5 ****ing dogs that I allowed to get close to my hard, crusty heart.

Two of them are our dogs (rat terriers) and the other three are strays/dumped dogs that I normally would just shoot and put out of their - and my - misery.

First came Buford. This boy is a black lab with a tiny white diamond on his chest. Maybe 9-10 months old. He is the most docile, gentle, even keeled lab pup I've ever seen. Very good dog.

Then came Brutus. Brutus is a black and white pit bull who is about 1 1/2 years old. He got dumped on us by one of my kids who went to Iowa to work. Brutus is the most gentle pit bull I've ever been around. We've had all our grandbabies out (4, 1, and 6 months) and he is great with them.

Then there's Petey. Petey is a female mutt who looks just like Petey from the Little Rascals - sans the circle around the eye. She's got a little pit bull in her, but she's very small and also very gentle. Petey actually belongs to a neighbor, but she's taken up residence at our house.

All these dogs play/wrassle with each other and don't bark - unless one of the rats gets them wound up.

My question is, who wants a dog....or 2. I'll even throw in a bag of Diamond chow. My problem with keeping them is that they want to play with the calves - which means the calves freak out and run through fences etc. Buford and Brutus have become very attached to each other and would make somebody fine pets.

Who's in?

Dude you have the land and the means. Keep the damn dogs and keep them out of where you have the calves.

I know you have good fences use them :)

So, does this mean you and Rhino will be there this afternoon to pick them up?

Heh. One thing is for certain. Ol' Dean ain't never taken or needed one of those smilin' Bob deals to get the ol' Gus fired up. I really do believe that your partner has a lot to do with it though. I probably couldn't get it up if my wife looked like 40 miles of dirt road. Or a beached whale. I'm very blessed in that regard.

I already have 4 stray dogs and an old barn cat, I have been cut off by the Rhino. Besides we live in town your the one with all the land.

But if we lived in Blanchard I would guarantee you that I would be out this afternoon.

i'm allergic.

You're allergic to all matter in the universe. Adding a dog or three to that mix ain't gonna make it any worse.

Or a BLEACHED whale. Why do chicks scorch the Earth on the top of their head when they get older? I mean, not that I care. Once a girl hits her mid-20's, she starts looking 40 to me...

Update:

Brutus has gone to doggie heaven.

Buford was taken in by a neighbor a few miles south of us. Of course it came with the stipulation that "if he bothers my goats, chickens, or calves I'm gonna shoot him."

Yesterday morning, on the way to work I ran over Petey. She was running alongside the truck and all of a sudden I hear a yelp. Look in the rearview and she's doing summersaults. I hit her back leg/foot pretty good. I stopped and checked her out, then headed on to work. I came home at lunch to see if she needed to be sent to doggie heaven or if she might be OK. I think she's gonna make it. Gave her some ibuprofen in some cheese, and covered her with a blanket last night while she was laying in momma's strawberry patch. She was up this morning, walking on 3 legs.

My question still is: Who wants a great dog? If one of you had stepped up to help out, Brutus might still be with us, and Petey wouldn't be lame. Seriously, she's a great little dog.

If you need an expert to fly out, let me know. I have graduated to dogs now.

Dude, how did you graduate to dogs when you failed cats? And how the hell are you J?

In DC's defense, cats are clever and elusive.

Doing great! Cats are hard to shoot after a day of tailgating. That's what makes them elusive Bri!

The trick is, you gotta aim for the one on the left.

Or is it the right?

This is serious now boys. Who wants a dog dammit?

if I had a fenced yard, I would, but the neighbor has 2 dogs that follow him everywhere (he owns the horse park where we live) - they are in our yard constantly, and they will tear up a new dog...or cat...or any other creature that tries to come in the yard.

Like a Jehovah's Witness?

I'd take one, but my landlord hates pets more than I hate aggy. And that's saying something.
