Agreed...

Too bad more often than not, self-described Christians are symbolizing hate and intolerance based on their interpretation of what someone wrote over 2000 years ago.:O

But then again, there's plenty of hate to go around....:D

This guy is an idiot just like Phelps is. It is sad to see people bastardizing religion in this way. However, I noticed that he was being protested, his neighbors are up in arms and the news media felt it was worthy enough to mock him.

As to your quote...

I truly believe that you wrote this thinking that you were taking the moral high ground. It doesn't even occur to you that you being bigoted in your statements.

Sadly you're right, there is plenty of hate to go around.

Reading is fundamental!:)

Did you miss where I said "self-described Christians"?

Apparently so...;)

Ergo....actual Christians abhor hate....

Which one are you?

Wow. Being a Christian and describing oneself that way can be one and the same...Don't you think?

In fact, more often than not Christians would describe themselves that way.

Claiming that Christians are incapable of hate is fundamentally misunderstanding the reality that Christians are humans just like everyone else.

Oh, and to answer your  question, I would categorize myself as a Christian and a human. That is inclusive of the good and bad of each category.

Check my response again...I said "abhor". I corrected my first because I agree we're all human.

None the less, you can't argue that some of the most outspoken "Christians" these days are also the biggest haters.;)

And the folks that act most "Christ like" are accused of being socialist and liberals.:D

I am not arguing that some outspoken "Christians" are the biggest haters. I am arguing with your statement that more often than not that is the case.

I was responding to your original statement. I am glad that you edited your previous comment.

You seem to have an axe to grind with Christians so I won't take the bait on your victimization comment, my ability to do so notwithstanding.

Yeah, my mind went to the swimming Phelps, not the psycho Phelps. By the way, for those of you not in the know, film maker (quote unquote) Kevin Smith is going to be doing a horror movie about "a person who is similar to Fred Phelps," called "Red State."

Does it matter? Any scriptures can be twisted to make the speaker's point. They're like basic statistics.

Yes you can.

I would argue that the rare nut-job is paraded around like the typical outspoken Christian. I'm almost 40 years old. I've been around Christianity my whole life, have people in my family who are ministers in different denominations and have never ever met anyone, heard anyone or seen anyone say anything remotely similar to what this guy is saying.

This guys is aberration and is the antithesis of anything Christian.

He is not representative of me or of anyone I've ever known who claims to be Christian.

That just isn't statistically possible.Once you factor in abortion, communist and fascist driven genocide by germany, russia, china, wars, etc, I think its more than possible.

The cultural revolution in Communist China alone ended up killing 30 million people. That alone dwarfs anything done in the name of God.

So you are saying that only anti religious people have abortions? Really, because every person I know that has had an abortion has not been anti religious.

landrun
9/10/2009, 12:30 PM
1/3rd of all women in evangelical churches have had abortions. But I would think that the number of abortions in these countries is irrelevant in changing how factual Tuba's statement is.

Yeah, except the quote was - verbatim - "Yet the regimes of the anti-religious have ended up killing more people in the 20th century alone, than in all of history combined."

No mention of "in the name of God". Just the regimes of the anti-religious and their ability to kill more people in the last 100 years than any regimes in "all of history combined".

And since "all of history combined" includes the 20th century, it is not possible for your statement to be true.

You can't draw a line in the sand and say THIS WILL NEVER BE CROSSED and when someone crosses it say - WELL THE LINE IS OVER HERE, IDIOT. It just doesn't work that way.

There's also the always fun and repeatedly disproved conflation of Hitler and irreligiousness.

From the Nazi party program:

The party as such represents the standpoint of a positive Christianity, without owing itself to a particular confession...

I believe today that my conduct is in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator.

- Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Vol. 1 Chapter 2

I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am fighting for the Lord's work.

- Adolf Hitler, Speech, Reichstag, 1936

Well I know this thread went off to la-la land with the christian/non-christian and who killed more etc etc.

But back to the original topic Phelps is among a handful of people I do want to burn in hell.

I have seen them in action in person at some of the funerals of our fallen warfighters.

The one line he likes to state:

"Thank God for Dead Soldiers"

Is enough to make me want to plant him myself

Got no use for him or westboro or whatever the phuck the name of the church is.
