Not best, favorite. No limit on how many.

Mine:

Rod Shoate '72 - '74
http://img2.imageshack.us/img2/5682/rodshoate19727374.jpg (http://www.imagehosting.com/)

Visually the fastest linebacker I think I have seen at OU.

George Cumby '77 - '79
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2874/georgecumby19771979.jpg (http://www.imagehosting.com/)

Knocked Earl Campbell backwards, and knocked himself out doing it.

Brian Bosworth is my all time favorite. I also liked:

Rocky Calmus
Torrence Marshall
Teddy Lehman

There was someone in the 90's, but I can't remember the name. And wasn't Dante Jones Bosworth's successor when Bosworth moved on? He was good too. At least from what I can remember, anyway.

Torrence Marshall gets a nod as well.

Carl McAdams.....check out feature story on him in Sooners Illustrated this month.

Was Torrance Marshall a LB? I thought he was good. I remember in the 2000 NC season watching the game at College Station when OU trailed 4th Quarter & he came up with INT. I also remember his brashness in publicly lecturing Chris Wienke at the coin toss at the NC game against FSU for "..stealing that (Heisman Trophy) from my Boy (Heupel)...." He was one tough dude too. He hated everything Fla. because he was from Miami, I think, and nobody recruited him.

Was Eugene Ross a LB? All I remember is his bone jarring tackles. One tough dude.

All the ones mentioned above are great picks. OU has had some good 'uns. Seems like the years OU has a great team that can finish the job, they have a great linebacking Corps.

In no particuar order:
Boz, Cumby, Darryl Hunt, Lehman.

IIRC Cumby had the deepest voice I have heard. Think it was him.

The Boz & Marshall. Marshall's speech at the coin flip before the national championship game is up there with Ripley's "Get away from her, you bitch!" Or maybe Doc Holiday saying, "I'm your huckleberry."

So, even if he wasn't the all-world guy the Boz was, he's on par in my pantheon of favorites.

Calmus is up there, too.

Aubrey Beavers?

My vote goes to T. Marshall. He would light a fire under the whole team. He was mean!

I gotta go with T. Marshall too. The coin flip still gives me goose bumps.

How about Joe Bowden...great linebacker during the late 80's and early 90's

I've heard many people who have watched WAY more OU football than I have say Rod Shoate was the best linebacker to ever wear the crimson and cream.

It'd be foolish of me to think they're wrong.

But I'm a Bosworth man. Always have been, and always will be.

See how old I am?

That was probably one of those years I spent at sea...missed a lot of the '80s/'90s.

Everytime they would unpile it seemed like the Boz was at the bottom of it.

Rod Shoate had more side line to side speed than any linebacker I ever saw at OU. The most underrated linebacker at OU was David Smith. His problem was he played opposite Shoate and was overshadowed.

Not just smack talk. But smack talk that was backed up with a MNC and MVP performance!
