I thought Landry improved as the night went on..... needed more of a chance with better protection. Penalties and stupid mistakes cost us. Landry started getting a better pocket presence by the fourth quarter.... just needs protection.

He's gonna be a great player and the bright side of all that's gone wrong is that he will get some playing time. Hell, it might even be good for him that the line is learning with him. He'll get the chance to learn to avoid the pass rush and later when the line can actually play together the occasional guy getting through will be a breeze for him to avoid.

assuming he survives that long!

I'm actually wondering if missing the games is going to make Sam want to stick around yet another year. Without a major turnaround and some help from the other contenders for the MNC blowing some games he's still gonna have those goals he wants to achieve,

Spek! I like both. "The Dirty Landry" has that Raiders like appeal in that he is dirty and mean and he's all ours. Dirt burglers and land theives we may be but the horn fans will **** their pants when our QB Dirty Landry starts to kick some ***.

That's the main point. Even tradional Oklahoma fans for the Cowboys are left wondering. This game in Dallas didn't cement the Oklahoma crowd to the Dallas Cowboys. With Sam gone, it may have given us new reason to think that our home-grown stars may and should cash in on that whole money train.

Landry was a National Honor Society member in High School. Brains to go with the physical talent. He also won an award at the Elite Eleven camp as most accurate passer. As far as the 'stache, Switzer was once asked about Lott wearing the bandana. In true Switzer fashion, he said, "If the kid keeps playing like that, he can wear panties for all I care".:D

In a tough situation Landry looked very composed. I think Idaho St. will rue the day they met "The Dirty Landry".

Unless another week isn't enough time for Wilson to figure out how to pick up blitz. If that continues, in a few weeks we will be dressing out homeless guys we picked up at the liquer store for the cost of a bottle of T-bird.

Wilson wasn't the one missing assignments.

Was that the first time in the game? It wasn't even the first time for that series. In fact, after Sam's injury the LB continued to make Landry's life hard. Adjustments.

Maybe I'm wrong. It looked like the same damn blitz to me.

Desert Sapper
9/7/2009, 10:46 PM
It also looked like the same bull**** move by our Left Guard. Except this time we had a RB (not sure who) in the backfield that ran up to double down on the DT on the left side. We just didn't need to do that last year, because last year, the Left Guard didn't miss many assignments. I think the thing to consider is that during a passing down, the O-Line has to create an effective pocket for the QB. When you move right to double down on a DT (or NG), you leave a huge gap on the left side that allows a blitz to take advantage. IMO, the running back that didn't stay home to block on the left side got Sam hurt, not KW.

delhalew
9/7/2009, 11:26 PM
Trent picked the wrong man to block, but then if a tight end or fullback(maybe what you are talking about) had been there, we wouldn't have a problem. It wasn't until Landry got knocked down in much the same manner, that some adjustments were made. Why can't we lay oline mistakes at Wilson's feet?

Anyway, that's just the way I remember it...doesn't necessarily make it so.

That one longer throw Landry made would have been an ESPN highlight if it had been completed. He just flicked his wrist right as the defensive guy was putting a helmet in his gut and the pass was just a tad short. But he threw it to a receiver whose defender had his head turned, so it looked like the proper read. The other play that impressed me was on the final drive. He threw a terrible pass into the ground on his first attempt. But instead of worrying about it, he threw a strike on the next play to move the chains. On his last pass it looked to me like a good throw that Tennell dropped that should have resulted in a makeable FG from that spot. I was so bummed we didn't at least get a shot from there (~45yds) because Landry earned that for us.

According to a story in the Tulsa World (I think), Wilson said the offensive guys were silent in the locker room at halftime and Landry was the only one to speak up and show some leadership. Love it. I think the kid (and the line, for that matter) gain alot of confidence in the Idaho St game and are where they should have been for the BYU game, confidence wise, after this Saturday. My guess is we'll give him alot of short, high percentage passes like bubble screens and stuff to the backs in the flat to get him in rhythm, as well as running the ball quite alot. Hopefully the line won't have 97 false starts, that will help as well lol. Remember, he's at OU for a reason: He's a winner and a good QB. Last time we had a 'stache leading us from under center...we won a Big 12 title! Have faith.

Any idea when Habern is back?

I think this is a whole different team if we get him back, because then we can have Eldridge playing his natural spot as the blocking TE or FB. I think the reality of our injuries didn't dawn on many of us, because of our faith in talent. Experience counts for a whole lot. And why wasn't Simmons starting? Did he get beat out?

In support of Landry, and in spite of my loving wife and everyone else around I am growing out the 'stache. It isn't gonna be pretty, but neither is Landry's! How cool would it be to see all men (that can grow a 'stache) was at the game with it grown out...ok maybe not, but just a thought!

Trent was covering the DE. If he had moved inside like the LG did (I think it was Good), the DE would have crashed on the QB. The problem is that we were in a 1 back set and the 1 back ran up into the hole. It's hard to tell if the RB was running a route, but it looked like he crashed down with Good on the DT on that side. However you look at it, there wasn't a solid pocket. There was a gap you could drive a truck through. That...is what I am talking about.

I already said Wilson made some bad calls at key points in the game, and that he didn't call enough passes downfield. I also hate, hate, hate, that we hardly ever throw from under center. It's so readable it's sickening.

ESPN:

Here’s a nugget courtesy of ESPN’s Stats & Information that I found fascinating in light of what happened last week in the Oklahoma-BYU game. Before every pass Bradford threw, the Oklahoma quarterback lined up in the shotgun, and every time he handed the ball off, he was under center. It could have taken the BYU defense a few drives to figure that out, but on the last drive of the half, linebacker Coleby Clawson hit Bradford twice in three plays coming from the same spot, and eventually knocked him out of the game.

Why don't we vary what we do by formation? It was 3 am out here and I was telling my wife on the phone that I knew exactly what was coming on every play. If we were in the gun, we were throwing. If we were under center, we were running. And then Sammy got hurt and we changed it up. Why did it take an injury? Of course, I also knew exactly where Hall was throwing the ball every time he threw it. That kid was staring his receivers down like a mofo. I'm not sure why we didn't pick him off more than we did.
