View Full Version : Heisman: Tebow or McCoy?

Let's assume that Sam will not or cannot win the Heisman this year. Let's also assume that the Heisman would then have to go to either Tebow or McCoy. Finally, let's assume you are God, and it's your choice. Because you are God, you do not have to give it to the player that deserves it. You can give it to whoever you want, for whatever reason (hmmm, kind of sounds like the way Heisman voters in fact do vote, but I digress). Who do you give it to?

I would give it to McCoy. On the one hand, it might hurt our recruiting for Texas to have another Heisman winner under Mack Brown. But we've continued to do just fine. Moreover, I have often said, and continue to believe that this nonsense about Tebow being the greatest football player of all time has got to stop...and it never will if he wins another Heisman.

I suppose since you're God, you could technically do that. But that kind of defeats the purpose of the question! :D

I was kiddin'. I'd go with "other" on my ballet, but if you're MAKING me choose, Colt. I don't wanna hear TeBlow's name again...and if he wins it twice, we'll hear about it til our kids are gracing the message boards!:pop:

As much as I don't want to see a Longhorn do well...I'd go with McCoy over Tebow.

How awesome would it be if he had that kinda season and got OU back to back Heismans and 3 in a decade? I think I could live with it!

it happened for bush and leinart

it's going to take a pretty poor outing for tebow not to win it this year though

I think they should give it to Adrian Peterson and apologize for screwing him over in 2004 just because he was a freshmen.

If Demarco REALLY IS 100%, and not just putting up a front to ease the Sooner faithfuls' worries, and REALLY CAN stay healthy... he can make it to New York. Anyone who can't see he's the most talented running back/receiver in CFB just doesn't know their football.

I'd have to look at the season both players had and judge from there. Okay, you say they both had great seasons; then I'd have to uphold the tradition of not giving out repeats and go with McCoy*. Otherwise, I'd be changing the game and belittling all past winners.

*I might mean Gerald :)

If I am God?

If I am God, neither of those two even get an invite.

God invites the following players to the Downtown Athletic Club for the Heisman Trophy presentation for the 2009 season:

Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
Gerald McCoy, DL, Oklahoma
Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma

And the winner is ...

^ This!! :texan:

If I were God, there are too many things to list concerning what I would do with the blasphemous & cursed heisman trophy, but I can say with all certainty that Teblow would be the last person in the world to get his hands on another one. Since I'm omnipotent, hypothetically speaking, I can do this without having to justify my reasoning :D

No rule that I am aware that says it MUST be awarded. If I were god I would just take the year off from the heisman and not give it to anyone if were a choice between either of these two.

I have nothing against McCoy seems like a good kid and him and Sam have become good friends from what I hear.

But I don't want any good to come from fexus. But that's just me.

Well, if I have to choose one of those two, then I choose McCoy!
Timmy the testicular trimmer already has one he didn't deserve!

But in reality, I hope Sam has such an outstanding year that he undeniably walks away with his 2nd Heisman! :D

And the answer is...

Tebow would have to get injured not to win it this year. I've never seen anything like this. Sam could throw for 5k yards and 60 TDs, break every record in the book, and not sniff the trophy. Likewise for Colt. Even if Tebow has half their stats adnd a loss or two, he still wins.

Im afraid it would have to go to Tebow. After all, a dad does want his son to love him forever.

I completely agree, I dont think there is anything that can keep teBlow from getting it

Ok, so is the question here really "If it can't go to an OU player, who should it go to?"

I would like to see it go to a school that hasn't had a Heisman... or at least hasn't had one in awhile and as Texas' intro video will laughingly show you (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkYOiKpaSXo), (about 0:30 if you don't wanna watch the rest) they have had two Heisman winners.

Three is just too many for Texas when there are schools out there that haven't had one, or even two... or that just haven't seen a Heisman winner in the past 10 years.

espn reported this morning that Tebow has been held out of practices because of back pain. Disc problems have been ruled out so they think it must be muscular in nature.....

Ask yourself how many folks have won it twice.

I'm OK with Sam winning it twice and Tebow getting shut out of College Football forever.

I'm also OK with Colt not even getting an invite.

In either scenario of either of them winning it...we will never hear the end of it.

So...for me...I have us winning the NC and the Heisman and putting an end to the thought that we can't win the Heisman and win a NC in the same season.

I have said it many times before, ESPN does not give it to someone who won it before. They want Mc Coy and they have lots of power.

Tim Tebow will not win the Heisman again.

The previous Heisman winners have more voting power than the media because of the regional splits. They will not let someone win it twice. Tebow will get the SEC area votes and a portion of Northeast but even some of the media are starting to revolt against the ridiculous lovefest going on.

As to the original question, I would give it to Colt McCoy.

The vote should be after the season and be the one that holds the crystal should win if the stats were anywhere near close. Different opponent defensive strengths and different number of minutes played could even make stats get skewed.

I do think that the backlash against Tebow is what hurt him last year. First in number of #1 ballots and third in total voting. That has never, ever happened before. Only way is happened is number of voters from SW that put Crabtree ahead of Tebow. That was either truly ignorant or anti-Tebow. I think it was more of the latter.

1st 2nd 3rd total
Bradford, Oklahoma 300 315 196 1726
McCoy, Texas 266 288 230 1604
Tebow, FLorida 309 207 234 1575

Bradford was on 811 ballots, Tebow was on 750 ballots. At least 61 people didn't think he was top 3? I don't think so but they voted that way anyway.

Bradford put up great numbers last year but consider the following:

Top 10 Defenses Faced
Tim Tebow 2
Sam Bradford 1
Colt McCoy 0

Top 20 Defenses Faced
Tim Tebow 5
Sam Bradford 1
Colt McCoy 0

Top 50 Defenses Faced
Tim Tebow 10
Sam Bradford 3
Colt McCoy 0

Defenses Ranked Worse than No. 70
Tim Tebow 1
Sam Bradford 8
Colt McCoy 10

Oh yeah, I'll pick Tebow.
