Something I just saw and wondered about--sorry if it's been covered before. I believe Bob Stoops played at Iowa from 79-82. According to Soonerstats, the first game of the 79 season for OU was a home game against Iowa (W 21-6).

Did Stoops play in that game? Was it his first college game? For some reason I'd find it kind of cool if Stoops' first game in college was played on Owen Field.

He played in the game but I don't know if it was his first game ever.

There is a pic somewhere floating around on the internets of him playing in that game i believe.

Top Dogs has a pic signed by Stoops with him jumping over a blocker trying to tackle Billy Sims. Pretty cool stuff.

So all that talk about coaches instructing TRRW to not leave his feet? Down the drain when TRRW saw this pic, assuming #41 is Bob :D

it's so crazy to think of Stoops and Sims in the same game on Owen Field

i bet he wasn't thinking he'd be back in 20 years to coach...

I also had Bob and Billy sign an 8x10 of the first pic. It's pretty sweet! When I asked Billy to sign it, he said "you know he (Bob) missed right?" I said "oh really?" He said "yeah, he missed me...he's been sayin he got me but he missed me!" "When you have him sign that, tell him that he missed!" I laughed it off. A few months later I got Bob to sign it. He said "you know that was my SECOND game I ever played, a true freshman and here I was chasing around Billy Sims!" I said "that's awesome coach!" He then said "you know I made the tackle right?" I said "oh yeah, because Billy said you whiffed?" He replied "ahhh, what else would you expect Billy to say?!" "I got him!" I laughed and said "somehow I believe your side more coach!"

Maybe he wasn't but I remember thinking to myself "Boy that number 41 might end up coaching the Sooners someday and do it in a great way".

I dunno - Stoops seems that the planning type to me. He may have already known where he would coach, who he would marry and the names of his future children.

OK, Sooner fans, here's your trivia question for the night.

In the picture above, which Sooner is being tackled? King Crimson, you are not allowed to answer.

Some additional background on the Bob Stoops game at Oklahoma. Apparently during that game, Bob was in coverage on an OU pass, but fell down and gave up a touchdown.

I read somewhere on one of the boards (probably this one), that a few years back, some of the current OU players were preparing a season's highlight reel to show to the end-of-season football banquet. They went back and found the game film of Bob falling down and giving up a touchdown, inserted it in the highlight reel, and played it for the banguet goers. And the whole place erupted.

THe story was that Bob laughed louder than anyone there.

Anyone else remember something on this?
