i hope we feed off of us being ranked behind texas even though we are star studded across the board and they have just a few sprinkled in

Any shakeup after we beat BYU and they beat Louisiana-Monroe? The AP is really fickle.

Well, while we're opening up vs. BYU the # 20 ranked team....
The mighty reverend led GAYtors open up vs. Charleston Southern and texass opens up vs. LA Monroe. I don't know how much chance a big win over BYU would give us to jump texass...but you have to think we'd have a little push from that.
Either way it doesn't matter (as you said) until 10/17

Quite frankly, B***n, I would rather stay behind those 2 "teams" as long as possible. C***k, says howdy, by the way.

While early polls are mostly irrelavent and the inital 2000 poll notwithstanding (I think OU was#18 and finished #1), early polls are kinda like NASCAR if you in the front row at the start it's lot easier to finish #1 than if your on the back row.

Yeah good point I guess...as long as we win out if we hang out among the top three..as Stoops says "in the end" we'll finish where we want to be.
Tell c***k hello if he's over there.

True, and it doesn't hurt that we play the team immediately in front of us in the poll...which means we win out...we in the big game again. I like that. Win em all, boys.

This will be to show relative strength.

1. Florida (58) 0-0 1,498 (3- LSU, UGA, FSU)
2. Texas (2) 0-0 1,424 (3- OU, OSU, KU)
3. Oklahoma 0-0 1,370 (5- TX, OSU, BYU, NU, KU)
4. USC 0-0 1,313 (4- tOSU, Cal, UO, ND)
5. Alabama 0-0 1,156 (3- VT, LSU, Ole Miss)
6. Ohio State 0-0 1,113 (3- USC, PSU, Iowa)
7. Virginia Tech 0-0 1,054 (4- Bama, GT, NU, UNC)
8. Mississippi 0-0 1,047 (2- Bama, LSU)
9. Oklahoma State 0-0 989 (3- TX, OU, UGA)
9. Penn State 0-0 989 (2- Iowa, tOSU)
11. LSU 0-0 914 (4- FLA, Bama, Ole Miss, UGA)
12. California 0-0 746 (2- UO, USC)
13. Georgia 0-0 714 (4- OSU, FLA, LSU, GT)
14. Boise State 0-0 659 (1- UO)
15. Georgia Tech 0-0 593 (4- UNC, VT, UGA, FSU)
16. Oregon 0-0 587 (4- BSU, Utah, USC, Cal)
17. TCU 0-0 521 (2- BYU, Utah)
18. Florida State 0-0 307 (4- BYU, GT, FLA, UNC)
19. Utah 0-0 289 (3- UO, TCU, BYU)
20. Brigham Young 0-0 267 (4- OU, Utah, FSU, TCU)
21. North Carolina 0-0 261 (3- GT, FSU, UNC)
22. Iowa 0-0 229 (2- PSU, tOSU)
23. Notre Dame 0-0 225 (1- USC)
24. Nebraska 0-0 207 (3- VT, OU, KU)
25. Kansas 0-0 134 (3- KU, NU, TX)

Like someone else posted, we are the only one with 5 ranked teams on OUr schedule. USC, Bama, UGA, GT, UO, LSU, FSU, and BYU all have 4. Nine have 3 (including FLA, TX, OSU, NU, and KU). 5 have 2; ND and BSU have one. Now, this doesn't count Championship games, so the ACC, Big XII, and SEC divisional champs should have another ranked opponent in that mix. I know that this will change throughout the year. There are some teams that should be ranked (Cincy, Sparty, maybe Pitt). With this schedule, if we win OUt, we will be there.

I'll just come out and say it:
I hope Florida loses every ****ing game this year and Tebow gets his head bashed in by all the opposing linebackers. I'm sure he really is a fine guy and all, but I am all for "he's getting too hyped, let's see him get taken down a few notches." I have never seen such a media fellatio as I have seen over him...not even for those spoiled bastages in LA.

Awesome! Being ranked high in the initial polls is a GREAT thing. What it means is that unless this is a season where 2 top teams go undefeated, we can take a loss and still be at the top. The higher we are ranked, the easier the road is.

Florida made history; face it fellow sooners, Tebow and company already have their names engraved on the crystal. maybe if we can avoid them and play in the Fiesta we'll get our BCS win.

NEW YORK -- As Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators prepare to make a run at their third national title in the past four seasons, the defending champions have already made some history.

Florida is No. 1 in The Associated Press preseason Top 25 released Saturday, followed by Texas, Oklahoma, Southern California and Alabama. But the Gators are in a class by themselves, the most overwhelming preseason No. 1 in the history of the media poll.

Florida received 58 of the 60 first-place votes, or 96.7 percent. Texas got the other first-place votes.

The previous highest percentage of first-place votes for the AP preseason poll, which started in 1950, was 95.4 percent for USC in 2007. Those Trojans got 62 of 65 first-place votes -- and didn't play for the national title.

A small factor for most years as most teams get picked off. A non-factor for teams scheduled to play teams above them as in the OU case.

I found it a little interesting that the only 2 1st place votes that didn't go to Florida were from eastern-based (1 in Pittsburgh, 1 in North Carolina) writers.

I know that this team is uber-motivated, but this poll will drive home that point. The two teams that beat them last year are ahead of them, Petey's boys just one spot behind them, and the orange-clad little brothers up I-35 in the top 10.
