Because she is the first lady of the united states. For better or worse she "represents" us now. She looks like garbage and I said before more like she is going to the wal-marts than anything. There is a certain expectation when someone reaches certain positions, the first lady should always dress with some sort of class. This goes right along with the ipod or whitehouse giftshop gifts the obama's gave to foreign leaders and their families. Or even how the press talked about how nasty/messy the obama campaign bus/plane/whatever always was.
I realize it's not a big deal but it does just show yet again the trash we have in the white house now.

I think this type of mindset is exactly why we get the stuffy, fake, non-people in government that we all constantly complain about. You say there is a certain expectation. Well, it's a stupid expectation that we need to let go if we're ever going to get real people into high-ranking political positions.
