 Good Lord I hope he is wrong...

“Social Security could face default within two years,” U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus predicted here Tuesday. “The situation is much worse than people realize, especially because of the problems brought on by the recession, near depression. What this recession has done to Social Security is pretty alarming."

“We’ve known for 15 years that we were going to have to make adjustment to Social Security, but we still through that was seven or eight years down the road,” he said. “But if things don’t improve very quickly, we’re going to be dealing with that problem before we know it.”

“We could raise the retirement age, or in the worst case, cut back on some benefits,” he said. “But that is something we are just now beginning to get a handle on.”http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20090818/NEWS/908189977/1007?Title=Bachus-discusses-Social-Security-health-care

It's only a matter of time. We've been hearing this for years yet nothing has changed.

The death of original socialism. I bet you conservatives are excited to see it go bye bye!

The death of original socialism. I bet you conservatives are excited to see it go bye bye!ME? not at all. To many people will get hurt by this that were told SS would provide for them. I cannot imagine what it will take to bail this sucker out. Even China might not have enough cash for this.

But Maggie Thatcher did have it right when she said the problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other people's money.

Does this mean they'll stop garnishing wages when it happens?

I have been resigned to the fact that I will never see any of my social security money back. However, mother likes to tell me to think of it as a gift to my grandparents, who draw social security after years of hard work and paying taxes and stuff.

So... there you go.

They'll just index it so that you can't collect until you're 94.
