I think you may be thinking of 2006 when A&M beat them in Austin 12-7. I'm not finding anytime that Tech won in Austin since Mack entered the equation.

I think you're thinking if their win with Kingsbury...2002 maybe???

That was in Lubbock.

Do bowl games count? They were the team that embarrassed Cal that year that Cal thought they deserved the Rose Bowl instead of Texas... 2004, methinks.

Before that game, I think Cal was a top-five team.

EDIT: Cal was No. 4 before losing 45-31. Tech was also ranked at the bowl... and of course, after winning too. You may recall the controversy... Texas was ranked No. 3 (prompting ESPN to demand that the coaches poll become public under suspicions of Big 12 coaches :les:bedowngradin'[hairGel] Cal) for the auto bid to the BCS, and thus, the Rose Bowl, sending Cal to the Holiday Bowl.
