Typically, I go with Farmland Maple Bacon as it gives me a reasonable chance at eating hogs raised by relatives. If that isn't available, I go with Hormel Black Label Maple Bacon.

rf5, I can't remember if you still live in Lincoln but if you do, take the time to visit the Super Saver on 27th/Pine Lake. Their smokehouse bacon that they make there on site is second to none.

Kretschmar's thick-sliced bacon. Baked with chili powder and brown sugar. On a BLT.

Hu-wow.

Have you guys seen Jim Gaffigan's like 20 minute long riff on bacon? It's excellence.
This is a brief portion:

Nope, there's such a thing as fresh bacon which sucks cause it has no taste, and there is salt bacon as well, and maybe something else.

I'll do that next time I am in that area of town. Which is rather frequently.

Every bacon listed here...on sale bacon, the thick cut peppered stuff from the butcher, salt pork, side pork; more and more these days I like it crispy.

Jimmy Dean hot sausage pwns JC Potter.

And thick-cut pepper bacon makes the best gravy.

And Owens Sausage pwns Dean's.
Less fat and better flavor. I buy the regular and make sausage 'n aig breakfast burritos by mashing the sausage into bits as I cook it, adding some cumin, chili powder, a tad of garlic powder (NOT garlic salt), and some red pepper, then scrambling some hen fruit into it. I roll the resultant melange into a large burrito-size tortilla, after spooning some salsa therein, and I'm eatin' fine...mighty fine.

See, I like Owens if I can't get Jimmy Dean. The Jimmy Dean is hotter. ;)

Actually, the best sausage is when I just buy ground pork and add my own spices to it...

And furthermore...
I really like HEB supermarkets' house brand thick-sliced bacon. But I hate to waste it by cutting it up to flavor beans and other stuff so I buy bacon scraps in a 3-lb package for such purposes. There's usually some huge thick portions and a lot of lean in the package, perfect for adding porky goodness and something to chew on to pintos, limas, lentils, etc.
Wayyyyy cheaper too.

HEB, the major chain down here, sells it in 3Lb sealed packages which are encased in a paper box. You might call around and see where you may find that or similar. It's not a house brand so it's not limited to HEB.
It's a crapshoot but I've always found a lot of big chunks of lean in them.
