paid by one small southern college.

While in SC visiting the esposita's remaining family, we made a trip to Charleston. Each time we go to Charleston, we visit the small chapel where we were married in the late Neolithic era (5/16/1982), on the campus of the small state college that actually conferred a degree on Yours Truly way back on the day before we were married.

This trip, we were struck by a sight that pretty much sums up the effects, in very real terms to us at least, of the post-9/11 world we all inhabit. Immediately below, is a mobile phone photo I took of the bronze plaque memorializing the college's war dead.

The second photo depicts brief actions in which at least one alum paid the ultimate price for his country. It also includes a few men who died of wounds sustained in the war depicted after the main plaque was prepared for that particular contingency.

The last photo speaks volumes. It lists the alums who have been KIA since 9/11, while at the same time indicating by its lack of permanence, there will be more. May God Bless their loved ones. Each man was a son, brother and/or father to someone.

Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom-Thomas Jefferson.Truer words were never spoken and it MUST NOT be forgotten, freedom is not free ,it is most often purchased by blood.
