View Full Version : Should we be concerned about the defense?

I have watched every practice video from the spring up until now; and i see alot of breakdowns, the wr's destroying our db's in one on one battles; and finally, big plays galore in the 1st scrimmage. I even remember in a interview one of the players saying they are still giving up too many big plays. Have we been sold a bill of goods?

I was just hoping that meant the offense was FREAKIN" OUT OF CONTROL and in general masters of badassery.:)

Maybe the offense is still pretty good?

Norvell said he thinks the wideouts have a chance to be better this year.

We have had pretty good wideouts under stoops, but imo it's been to long since we've had one show up in every game! I'm ready for another Fagan, Savage, Mackey, Wilson, Bradley ect....

The defense will be better, should continue to get great pressure but should have a better sense of responsibilities as well. I know we lost our safeties, but we were pretty slow at safety last year, and that hurt and put more presure on the linebackers to cover the field. Who's our 3rd corner or other nickel back type?

I am always worried about the D. Have been for some time now. But, if we can't get the shutouts that I love so much; I'd like to see some improvement year over year.

I feel much more comfortable with the Defense than I have in the past several years (as long as we keep all the depth at LB). All you are seeing are the highlights on video. In scrimmages the O gets to keep coming at you, even though they move the ball back after they don't make a first down, the DB's are in coverage 15 - 20 plays in a row. I wouldn't read to much into the highlight videos. I really do believe we have as talented of a Defense to begin the season as we have ever had. I just hope we are much improved in every aspect of the special teams. I don't care what I read, I'll be concerned about our kicking game until I see otherwise in the games.

Ditto, on the kicking game. Of course we do kick off a lot.

Stoops and BV get paid tons of $ to worry about such things - so we don't have to. I'll just sit back and watch the story unfold; and maybe drink a beer or 2.

you're trying to size up our defense vs our offense. our offense... that set an ncaa scoring record last year and is led by a heisman trophy winning qb. of course they're gonna get blown up every now and then.

nothing to see here. move along.

I think we'll see similar results to last year. Might see a little improvement since we have so many guys with experience coming back, but most offenses in the Big 12 will still be able to move the ball on us.

I'll weigh in on behalf of Curly Bill:

"Is Venables still the DC? Then yes is the answer."

;) :D

The defense still has about 3 weeks to get better going against arguably the best offense in the nation.

I think the same thing.

If they can step up and play like they did against Tech and Mizzou and Florida. I think we will be looking pretty nasty because if we are holding teams to 17-21 points, we will be scoring 50 again. I would bet the spread on OU all year long most likely as last year we covered almost every game.

They are facing the OU offense...
Don't worry.

Let's just get to a real game and see what happens. I'm betting both sides of the ball will dominate all competition.

This is the most confident I have been in a Venables D yet in the preseason.......
