Without him there is no modern music. Recording techniques he came up with will be used in music forever.

Man, who knows how long it would have took someone to make a good electric guitar had it not been for Les.

I never could justify paying what a Les Paul costs, but I've played them before and love the sound and the play action. Wish I had one. Lots of famous musicians play these (because they can afford them).

Have tried an Edwards?

They're actually higher quality for about 1/3 the price.

I bought mine because I love the look of them, and of course the quality and reputation. I bought it thinking it would inspire me to learn to play, since they are rather pricey, and I wouldn't want to spend so much money on something just to set. Well, that's exactly what it's done for most of the time I've had it -- set in it's fancy leather, satin-lined case.

...but boy, it sure is pretty!

I still say one of these days I'll learn to play.

...and when I do haul a guitar out to mess around with it's typically my Alvarez accoustic.

A Japanese-built knockoff of an LP is higher quality? That's a little tough to believe.

In general I think real LP's are grossly overpriced and Gibson as a company is historically a pain in the arse to deal with but they do make a damn fine instrument whether I like them or not. Unfortunately Gibson has all but driven out most of their independent dealers in favor of the big box retailers. Good luck trying to find one in the OKC area.

I used to think the same thing but Gibson's quality has gone to shat over the years.

I've owned 3 LPs and a 335, and now I just have one black beauty.

Edwards uses high quality wood, and C-N-C wood carving with tight tolerances, plus a long tenon.

Check out the specs some time and you may change your perception.

Also Heritage is a good USA option too. They're made by ex-Gibson luthiers in the old Gibson plant. They too are a fraction of the price.

I used to catch his show on Tuesdays, I believe, back when I lived about a 10 min walk from the place. Can't remember the name of the place... Chatted with him a bit. He was pretty friggin awesome.

He played Mondays at the Iridium. Although I think he used to play twice a week.
