I've said it before and I'll say it again....Tress Way can all out kick a football. If he's not our normal shorter yardage kicker...I bet he'll at least be coming in to kick any long kicks we may have.

Jimmy Stevens = 17

Tress Way = 36

Bryce Easley = 94

still boggles me why he was a RS last year, he had to be better than what we had.

Tress Way looks huge!

The Sooners never stop amazing me! We moved to partial white cleats a couple years back and I liked it....SOLID WHITE! BOOOOOO YA! You know how sweet that is going to look with a all white uniform and long socks or if they wear red high red socks? They look cool with the low white socks...that is all!

Yeah I didn't understand that at all. Especially after seeing how terribly inconsistent little Jimmy seemed to be from the get-go. Every extra point had me worried..not to mention the fg's as well.
From what I saw of Tress Way's kicking when he was on t.v. for Union games. That dude can kick a ball out of this world. All the kickoffs I saw him kick for Union were well into the back of the endzone or out of the endzone. And he was accurate on fg's best I can recall as well.

Maybe the coaches figured when we put up 50+...the kicking game becomes less important. Maybe they just wanted to see if we could slide by w/Tress on the bench so that way we have him for more years now.

Matt Moreland could boot a ball through the endzone, and he's not kicking from the 35 like Way did in HS. Problem was the same problem TW had... inconsistency. TW hasn't been any better in any of the scrimmages yet. In fact, he's been terrible in public games so far.

Stevens was 8/12 with one blocked. I can't fault a guy for getting a kick blocked by the top kick-blocking team in college football. If that's anyone else, who knows if it was anywhere close to making it? 8/12 on FGs and making as many PATs as he had to make last year ain't bad for a first-year guy. We're just all still spoiled by Garrett Hartley... a guy who may be the best young kicker in the NFL right now. GH could PK, he kicked FGs long, short and all different angles... and he could punt... not every guy can do that. In fact, VERY FEW can. To add, GH wasn't afraid to lower the boom on someone in KO coverage, either... something VERY rarely found in a PK.

does GH have a little brother?

One of my friends Brian Vavre was the KO specialist for UofA last year and he smoked the **** out of some poor kid. I can't remember what team he was from but I remember it was pretty nasty. I love when kickers lay wood...just not our kickers if you know what I mean?

Kicking it out of the end zone in H.S. has to be similar to being able to at least kick it into the endzone consistently in college. What's the yardage difference in college, like 10 yards further back or something?

For me, and most people I've talked to about this or sat next to in the endzone at games last year....it's not just the fact Jimmy went 8 of 12 or whatever on fg's. It's the fact that he can't kick an extra point straight down the middle consistently either. Every time that guy lined up to kick an extra point last year he made me nervous. And I know I'm not alone on that either. Seems like he missed a few extra points and had a lot of near misses. Too close for comfort IMO.

And I don't think it's a matter of being spoiled by Garrett Hartley. It's a matter of (best I can recall) we're not used to having such question marks with special teams kicking in the Stoops era as we are right now. I mean come on, we're a top 10/top 5 team year in and year out...we ought to have some solid kickers. Yes Hartley was good...but even when he seemed to struggle his senior year a little bit, we all started questioning WTF was going on. So it's only natural as fans of the best college football school ever known to man...that we would expect to have a near automatic kicking game. 8 of 12 and extra point attempts that fly left right and sometimes down the middle...well to me that's not good enough.

No doubt Hartley was a really good kicker for us, and maybe we are a bit spoiled. That in no way excuses the fact that Jimmy Stevens was not even close to what could be considered a good kicker. He may have been 8/12, but didn't we get to a point where in some situations we didn't even try to kick FG's where in seasons past we would have?

I think he had some lingering groin injury problems.

I tellin ya... Our biggest concern is not the o line, its the kicking game(special teams). In Tress we trust!!!!

I once heard someone say about TW, "He putts like he drives." As in he was inconsistent on short kicks because he just let it rip every time. Still, I'd rather see that than Stevens trying to guide in extra points and missing them.
