klahoma’s opening football practice of the preseason came and went Thursday with some good, and some not-so good, according to coach Bob Stoops.

But one of the many bright spots was the return to the field of senior linebacker Ryan Reynolds, who wore only a brace in his first practice back since suffering a third major knee injury midway through last season.
"He looked good,” Stoops said later Thursday night during the OU Caravan at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
"You can tell he’s had a good summer. "He looks great, he ran well. He did everything in practice today.”
In 2008, Reynolds tore his ACL in the third quarter against Texas, after producing what had been — up until the injury — an all-conference caliber season at middle linebacker.
Reynolds’ career at OU has been riddled with injury.
In 2006, he missed the entire year after tearing knee ligaments during an offseason 7-on-7 drill.
In 2007, Reynolds severed the lateral collateral ligament in his other knee during spring practice, though he recovered in time for the fall season, which was also hampered by a neck injury.
But for 5 1/2 games last season, Reynolds seemed to have finally moved past the injuries after enjoying an offseason of working on speed and strength instead of spending all his time rehabbing his knees.
Then a third knee injury sent him back to sidelines and rehab room again.
Reynolds’ return to the middle of a deep and talented linebacking unit will be one of the story lines to follow this August.
Another will be the progress of senior DeMarcus Granger, who is trying to overcome back surgery he underwent last December and work his way back into the defensive tackle rotation.
"He did some things; he was in there really for most of the practice,” Stoops said. "We’ll see how it goes with him as he continues to recover from that back injury.
"We’re hopeful that he’ll get to a point that he’ll be able to help us for a number of snaps a game. We’ll see how he progresses.”
