On a side note, it's the Salinas Valley where 80% of all lettuce in U.S. is grown - the Salad Bowl of the World - where John Steinbeck was born. Near Monterey on the coast.

It's too hot for growing lettuce where I live in the San Joaquin Valley - we got grapes, nuts, asparagus, cherries, tomatoes and lots more, but generally not the leafy greens stuff.
