I will admit to liking their music, but I had never planned to see them live. I just never really wanted to badly enough to drop $100 a ticket or whatever they command up here. They really brought it. They sounded phenomenal and they gave it up to the crowd for sticking it out in the slop and mud. I have some new found respect for them. They are excellent showmen. I wish I had gotten to really listen to more than about 6-8 songs. I had to get to the other stage to get some shots of MGMT, which went on almost simultaneously.

They're touring with Coldplay right now. Very reminiscent of early Peter Gabriel stuff. Excellent performers. If I had heard their music beforehand, I would have guessed they'd be snoozers, but they brought it.

The biggest issue with Colplay now, is that their fanbase is increasingly becoming the Jonas Bros demo. Lots of teens and tweens there bagging on Echo ... little did they know that Coldplay are HUGE fans of theirs.

I saw Ra Ra Riot with Deathcab.

And what's the deal with Ice T? Is he still really a musician? Because he's not really an actor.

Dude, the pics are very well done.

That being said, WTF is up with the yainch and all the **** wrapped around her face? And the one dude with the "Obama's boy" armband? Also, what genre of music would you call all these bands/groups/people? Are these folks political in their shows?

sooneron
8/5/2009, 10:49 AM
That's Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, they are pretty much an art punk band from NYC- pretty alternative. You would actually like a couple of their songs - MAPS is one of them. well, maybe

The dude with the Obama armband is the lead singer of Coldplay- (I know, you hate them) That's about as political as he gets as far as I know.

Actually, I don't think I heard much politico-speak at all this weekend. The only peeps I heard saying stuff were the flier handing out crowd, but they're pretty much at every show.

Thanks for the photo praise. You would have liked The Black Keys' performance and a few others.

Saw Ra Ra Riot, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Silversun Pickups and Gogol Bordello at Sasquatch. Karen was incredible at Sasquatch.

Saw Ra Ra Riot and Gogol Bordello at DFest.

I have decided to skip ACL since Friday's lineup collapsed with teh Beastie news. Sunday is great but a tough way to get back to work on Monday.

Great photos, did you have a pass? I have to always sneak my DSLR in...

Don't listen to Dean...he is starting to act his age.
I refuse. :D

Start up a blog and ingraciate yourself to some artists - send them some shots that you took of them performing. Also, offer some shots to other blogs as long as they give you credit.
