Me and the esposita have found a house up in Sand Springs we really, really like. We <heart> Tulsa, but...lot more house for the money, it's 10 minutes from my gun club, and only 15 minutes door to door from said house to my office door downtown.

what say you?

Homey...

If you like to sail...Windycrest Sailing Club up at Keystone is a nice place to put a boat at IMO and you would be about as close as one could get to your work while still being able to enjoy the cesspool that is Lake Keystone.

Since you have a durable vehicle the bad roads aren't a problem...so that's a plus. If you like to eat and hang out in Tulsa for the eating establishments and such...the drive back to SS sucks IMO.

We lived out near Westport for a few years and it was beautiful for sure....the drive into Tulsa got really old though. We were young back then and had no kids. Since your nearing your elder years...who knows....it might just work out and as a resident there might be some pretty good deals Nursing Home wise when your ready. :D ;)

Also....it's the road to Stoolwater.

Hell....it's only money....give it a try for a couple of years.

we're leaning thataway.

here's the view out the backdoor, and about a third cheaper than a similar casa in Jenks or Bixby. Me likey hills and trees.

Well....they are all bad thanks to the thieving OKC Road Barons.

And Homey....you are right about some of the places in SS. Up on the hill...there are some spectacular homes with a view.

As a transplanted Sandite, I say go for it, Homey.

The only word of warning is to stay away from Wal-Mart unless you want to be dangerously exposed to deadly levels of redneckitry.

I was born and raised in Midtown. Spent about 4 years living in Brookside after I got back from college. Endured a 2 year failed escapade in Owasso and am now in south Tulsa/Bixby.

The main reason we didn't like Owasso was the lack of infrastructure. Hard to get to places like grocery stores, Walgreens and the like. Nice views and peace and quiet are good. Until you have to go pick up a prescription, wanna grab a quick bite, etc.

Unless your address is going to include Forest Blvd or Terwilleger, most of midtown/brookside is really pretty average.

Did you live outside of town or something? I can count 5 grocery stores and about 8 pharmacies within a 5 min drive up here.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I don't have a hard-on for Owasso or anything, but to suggest that Owasso is somehow commercially underdeveloped for a city of 30,000 is pretty absurd. If anything, Owasso has proven to be overdeveloped for a relatively small bedroom community, evidenced by the multiple restaurant closures there's been up here lately.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and disinfect myself for agreeing with Tuba.

Owasso must be doing something right, people keep moving here, and the sales tax base increased 4% in the last quarter.

Tulsa was down 10%.

Besides, downtown is like 15 min away if you want a decent bar.

I think there is a good balance up here now. Thankfully most of the places that have closed have been snagged up and replaced with new restaurants. So I guess someone thinks its a profitable venture still. Wish we had a bookstore and a couple more bars, but the cigar place is good enough for me. I hate the chains for the most part, and we have some decent local places too.

I think for the money and the family friendly atmosphere, you can't beat it up here. Schools are good, crime is low, property is cheap, and the people are nice. I even live next to a couple of ex-OU football players. But all in all, all the Tulsa area is pretty much the same.

The West Side is the best side.

Some of the best firefighters on the job are blue collared west siders.

And while somewhat understaffed, Sand Springs has one of the most aggressive, proactive, well-trained departments of any suburban community I've ever seen. Joslin is on the ball with his guys, moreso than some of the clown shoes outfits you'll find in every other community surrounding Tulsa.

I moved out to the Prattville side of Sand Springs in February. Here's why:

- Bigger house for less money (like 40-50% less) than in Jenks, BA, Bixby or Owasso
- Lots of hills and trees :D
- No more road noise from the BA Expressway.
- No repeaded circling from the TPD helicopter.
- Good school system.

The only real disadvantages of living out west:
- no restaurants to speak of (except Amici's - which opened after I moved)
- shopping is lacking (the Wally is terrible.)
- 30 minutes to the airport (a big deal to me since I travel quite a bit.)

Overall - I'm happy with my choice.

Go for it Homey!

I always felt that Sand Springs was a nice place to live, I don't read anything in the paper about any screwball things going on there. I'm sure it is a lot cheaper than Bixby or Jenks, we've looked there and WOW they are pricey.
