I know this Sooner Football board has become a little bit cluttered with general sports stuff lately, but I post this here for discussion because I think Bud is WAAAAAAAAY too low. I understand why Bear Bryant is as high as he is, but surely Bud should be higher than Paterno, Bowden, and Rockne.

Yea, 47 in a row should move you up more then that. I'm kind of shocked Barry's not on there somewhere. I see Osborne's on there and I know he coached longer then Barry, but you gotta have the King on there.

I think an all sports coaching list is stupid.I saw this list once a while back or something similar to it a and I can't even begin to grasp how you compare college baketball coaches to NBA-NHL-NFL-College football-MLB managers etc. Apples to kiwi comparison.

The overratedness of Dean Smith never fails to boggle my mind.

But these lists, for the most part, are dumb.

I wonder if anyone would know who Tom Osborne was if Switzer hadn't retired in '89.

Don Shula at #5? Really?

Exactly. Switzer was (I think) 12-5 against Osborne.

That list is so full of fail it's unbelievable.

How the F can Bowden and Paterno and Hayes be ahead of Bud? Seriously? Bowden? Hayes? Are you kidding?

And Tom Landry is 18th??? Behind freaking Gibbs? GIBBS?? Are you ****ting me?

Landry was every bit the coach that Lombardi was. They both revolutionized the game. And Landry had just as much success as Lombardi and lasted longer. To put people like Noll and Gibbs, and Shula ahead of him is just ridiculous.

And Walsh is way underrated as well. He's quite possibly the best NFL coach on the list. though I would put him third behind Landry and Lombardi.

I would swear this list was written by 20 year olds.

There seems to be someone missing on there. He won 3 MNCs in CFB and a Super Bowl. How many other coaches besides Jimmy Johnson in all of sports can say that?

Lombardi > Landry

Landry had really good teams but was Dean Smith for a while in losing big games. Lombardi won, then won again and won some more for good measure.

I think your heart strings are overrating the man in the hat quite a bit. I'd put Bill Walsh above Landry.

And Bo Schembechler at #36? Did he ever win anything?

Oh, and Gibbs won more Super Bowls in MUCH less time.

Exactly what it looks like the writers figured into the process.

Landry basically invented the modern defense. He was much more than just a head coach, he was DC when Lombardi was OC. He had his team in 5 superbowls. Yes he lost three, but big deal, he was there, year after year for more than two decades.

I wouldn't argue with putting Walsh ahead of him, but Gibbs is just a joke.

Switzer vs. other coaches he faced on that list:

1-0 vs. JoePa
3-0 vs. Bowden
1-0 vs. Schembechler
1-0 vs. Hayes
12-5 vs. Osborne

= 18-5. Nah, he wasn't good enough.

Being a Lakers fan, I have to say one guy that should at least be considered is Jerry Sloan

If that's the case then where is Sid Gilman? Or Emory Ballard?

Why should Joe Gibbs get less credit than Landry for winning three Super Bowls in 17 seasons as a pro coach whereas it took Landry 29 seasons to win two? Joe Gibbs was a GREAT football coach. So was Landry. But Gibbs won more Super Bowls and had a higher winning percentage.

Torre over Billy Martin...really....and no consideration for Earl Weaver?

You make a good point, and I'm not saying Gibbs isn't a good coach, I just think Landry was a better coach and added more to the game. Granted, they are neck and neck on the list so it isn't like one of them got dissed, but still.

Does Osborn have 3 National Championships and a Superbowl? Longer doesn't mean better! We all know that :)
