yep...too bad we can't have him for the regular season and big 12 title game and then someone else for the national title game.

Don't remind me about the 2000 championship (ok its always good to remember) that was almost a decade ago

I also don't want to hear about how he's made it to the national title game 4 times...the fact that he's only won 1 just further helps my statement.

And before anyone starts griping at me and calling me a stoops hater (which I'm not) (3rd best coach in OU history behind the other B's)...I very much hope he brings home #8 this year!

Barry won in 74,75 and 85. Back to back and then, ummm a decade.

In addition, I'd argue that it is more difficult to win it all in today's game. Scholarship limits have done a LOT to level the paying field. Back in the day of the other 2 B's, there were no limits. Barry Switzer had guys sitting on the bench most seasons that would have been starting in today's game at other schools.

In basketball, 5 final fours and 4 title games in 10 years would have Bob on the cusp of best in the history of the game type status. History will look on Bobby pretty well.

the BCS makes it harder as well.

it was a lot easier to back in before. now you can back into the game, but not really the trophy

Switzer didn't even have to play in a bowl game to win his first...

see Stoops in 2000, 2003 and 2008 ;)

in '75 we played a relatively crappy Michigan team and won because UCLA upset Ohio State in the Rose Bowl

heck even in 1985 we needed help

Yeah, but he got the nod in '74 because he had the best team in '73 too.

Yeah, but we beat every team on our schedule and still didn't the nod in '78.

Yeah, but we were behind BYU in the polls in '84 even though they hadn't played anybody.

Yeah, but we were the only undefeated team in the country but had to play a true road game for the title in '87.

If anything, the BCS is kinder to Oklahoma than any other system. It's provided a golden path to follow for us in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008. We've had our chances thanks to the BCS, not in spite of it.

you'll find that i'm more in favor of the BCS than against it. i think it's a lot tougher to repeat now than it was then. you basically have to play a top 2 team to win now, that wasn't the case before

It's harder for most schools because in addition to winning versus a top 2 team they also have to win conference championship game, excluding of course, the Big 10 and the Pac 10.

Neither the old system nor the new one are right. Even if you combine the two-fer's best qualities it's still not a playoff. It's still set up for little technicalities and loopholes to burn somebody somewhere.

somebody will be crying somewhere regardless

120 teams are a lot to deal with

the other extreme would be like they do it in chess...

of course they only have to cross a room when they are playing, not cross the country or sell tickets to 80,000 people 6 months in advance
