No handouts, huh? "Free is just another word for socialism", right? Take the beer, work things out, and move on, is what I say.

At the risk of thread jacking, I would like to communicate my discontent with both this admistration's as well as the Bush administration's refusal to say the simple words, "I'm Sorry!" or "I may have made a mistake."

Is that too much to ask from these folks? Admitting errors and mistakes is usually where I find the most growth and progress in my life, but maybe I'm just strange that way.

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan on Friday to apologize for a remark about seances he made during his first news conference earlier in the day.

When a reporter asked Obama if he had spoken with any ex-presidents since his election on Tuesday, he responded that he had spoken to all former presidents "that are living."

"I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any seances," he said.

Nancy Reagan, wife of 40th President Ronald Reagan, was derided in 1988 when his former chief of staff Donald Regan revealed in a book that the first lady had consulted an astrologer to determine the president's schedule.

Obama apologized to Reagan "for the careless and offhanded remark," Obama transition team spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said.

"The president-elect expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share and they had a warm conversation," Cutter said.

President Reagan died in 2004 at 93.

Other first ladies have reportedly used spiritual advisers.

In his 1996 book, "The Choice," Washington Post editor and writer Bob Woodward said that as first lady, Sen. Hillary Clinton had seance-like sessions at the White House during which she conversed with late first lady Eleanor Roosevelt. At the time, the White House said the sessions were not seances.

Abraham Lincoln's wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, was rumored to have held seances at the White House in order to contact her two dead sons, Eddie and Willie. She also reportedly went to seances under an assumed name after the president's death to attempt to contact him.

Immediately after the seance remark, Obama (http://topics.cnn.com/topics/Barack_Obama) said he had "re-read some of Lincoln's writings, who's always an extraordinary inspiration" and mentioned that former Presidents Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush and current President George W. Bush "have all been very gracious and offered to provide any help that they can in this transition process."Lazy ***.

Obama Apologizes for 'Special Olympics' Comment

By Stephen M. Silverman

President Barack Obama's lighthearted Thursday night appearance (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20266884,00.html) on NBC's Tonight Show didn't leave everyone clutching their sides with laughter.

Obama's comments to Jay Leno about his low bowling score – in particular, an off-the-cuff remark that it was "like Special Olympics or something" – had the chief executive calling Special Olympics chairman Tim Shriver from Air Force One on Thursday before the program even aired.

"He expressed his disappointment and apologized," Shriver told Friday's edition of ABC's Good Morning America (http://abcnews.go.com/gma). "He was very sincere."

In a statement issued Friday, White House spokesman Bill Burton said, "The President made an offhand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics. He thinks that the Special Olympics are a wonderful program that gives an opportunity to shine to people with disabilities from around the world."

Shriver also noted that "words hurt and words do matter, and these words that in some respect can be seen as humiliating ... do cause pain." He further said that he hopes the president's slip of the tongue "a teachable moment for our country."
Oops! Wrong apology. ;)

I swear, though, he needs to quit hanging wround with Joe Biden.

Naw. Here's his apology to the cops...kinda.

I want to make clear that in my choice of words I unfortunately gave an impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department or Sgt. Crowley specifically and I could have calibrated those words differently.

That's lawyer speak for "I'm sorry."

But he sure as heck coulda done a whole lot better.

He stuck his foot in his mouth and he should apologize. No way around it.

Comedians have complained there has been no easy way to do jokes about Obama like on previous Presidents. I think his frequent apologizing for 'foot in mouth' comments could be the way for them to go.

Also the way he 'throws like a girl'. ;)
