I was thinking the other day about the size of Memorial Stadium compared to Boone Pickens and was curious if anybody knew why OU's is so much bigger then OSU's. I know that BPS was built in 1913 w/8000 stands and Memorial Stadium was completed in 1925 w/16,000. BPS only had a capacity of approx. 40,000 from 1950 until the recent renovations, w/Memorial Stadium seating nearly 68,000 starting in 1957. OU has steadily increased more seating to the current capacity of around 82,000 w/the 50 million dollar gift from the Gaylord family.

Did OSU just not care over the last 50 years or what?

Well it may have something to do with supply vs demand. There was a demand to get in to Memorial Stadium (still is), thus OU needed more seats. There was never the demand in Stillwater. They still can't sell out football games.

Would you throw money after that football program?

They don't have the donors to keep up, and when Pickens is gone and the pendulum swings back on their football program they'll be stuck with a maintenance bill that is too high for them.

There was never the demand in Stillwater.

I guess that answers the question.

Also, there are probably 5% of the OSU fans that also have Season Tickets to OU. Mom is an alumn of OSU, Dad OU, so they have season tickets to both. On any given Saturday in the fall, as much as 10% of the entire population of the State of Oklahoma may be at a college football game. Football is a way of life in Oklahoma.
In Texas, on any given Saturday, only about 1% of the population is at a football game, the rest are watching scoccer or at the mall.

If I recall correctly the Georgia game requires a season ticket.

That's my understanding.

And there's a reason our stadium doesn't hold more. Mass suicides after our losses to Texas seriously cuts into our fan base.

"A year ago, OSU didn’t sell single-game tickets to the OU game. Fans only had access by buying season tickets. This year, the Cowboys will have the same policy for the season-opening game against Georgia on Sept. 5."

Pokie recruiter: What's not to like about OSU?
Recruit: Half empty stadiums and second tier bowls.

If the Georgia game is not a sellout they should offer single game tickets. I am confident that there are people who would attend if they didn't have to pony up the $$ for games that they would not attend just to be able to attend the Georgia game.

I was waiting for a horn fan to stomp on that argument then I was going to tear him down. But the horn fans were too busy watching scoccer.

I'll be in Dallas too, but if there wasn't an OU game on I would consider buying a cheap ticket to the OSU-UGA game. (Wearing my crimson and cream of course.)
