From the Tulsa World:

NORMAN — Richard Peters isn't scheduled to arrive as a member of the Oklahoma basketball program until 2011. It will be very interesting to see what he looks like when he hits campus.

Internet recruiting services reported Peters, who approached the 7-foot mark as a Florida prep school sophomore last year, verbally committed to the Sooners Monday night.

"Coach (Jeff) Capel put in the work and recruited Richard like he was an assistant coach," Kevin Scarlett, Peters' travel-team coach in his native Toronto, Ontario, told Rivals.com.

Obviously Capel sees a lot of potential in the Class of 2011 center. Peters averaged 10 points and seven rebounds for Sagemont, a prep school in Weston, Fla., last season. But his size — he is listed as tall as 6-foot-11 and as big as 260 pounds — and raw ability make him a prospect who drew interest from Connecticut and Louisville, besides OU.

"He's not a phenomenal athlete who is just going to jump over people, but he uses his body to create space," Sagemont coach Adam Ross told Rivals. "He really shoots and passes the ball well."

Peters earned enough notice last April to be invited to play in the International Game at the Jordan Brand Classic in New York. He scored 12 points in 22 minutes, and contributed three rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals.
