This POS is bout to wear me out. Bout a week ago, I downloaded and installed a MS update and emptied my trash bin all on the same day. The next day I noticed it took me a few minutes to boot up. Now the processor is running(or lit up)almost all of the time. It takes about 10 minutes to boot up and get to the desk top, then it takes about 20 minutes before I'm able to open any application. I will list what I've done and the pc spec's below. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Compaq Presario
Windows XP Pro SP3
AMD 1.6G

I have AVG that runs every other night. No threats found.
I have ran msconfig and turned off all start up processes.
I have ran a malware program that found nothing.

Thanks,
TF

Ctl-Alt-Del and open task manager, go to the processes tab and sort them by CPU with the high numbers at the top. This will show you what processes are chewing up yer resources.

??? Is your drive full? If you don't have free disk space then it will run like a POS.

Ok some possible things...

1. Does your hard drive need defragging? hard drive sounds like its bottle necking
2. remove the update and see if its better or any unnecessary programs
3. disk cleanup

You may try another freebie like Avast Home Edition and see what happens...I downloaded AVG once and it had a virus attached to it
